    Halladay and Wells to Philly

For Happ and 2 minor league prospects.

I was down in Toronto on business today and ate at Wayne Gretzky's resturant which is 2 minutes from the Rogers Centre. There were a bunch of execs there talking about Halladay to the Phillies for Happ and 2 prospects being almost donw, but that they really wanted to unload Vernon Wells contract.

It's down to Philly, the Mets (despite what Omar says) and yes...the Yankees. The Yankees are willing to eat Wells contract for Halladay and send Joba/Hughes and a prospect.

    • The Blue Jays have publicly expressed interest in moving Wells or Rios, if not both, and their large contracts. If the Blue Jays do move Halladay, it wouldn't be too far fetched to think that one of those two would be involved in the deal. The Jays have said that if Halladay goes, they will be moving others, and re-building. So, a Halladay trade could hind on whether or not the team interested in Halladay is willing to take Wells or Rios.

This is why New York teams seem like a good fit. They can afford the salaries and actually have a need in the outfield. Unless Philadelphia can find a third team interested in acquiring Wells while eating a portion of his contract, then that could make the difference in whether or not Halladay goes to Philly or gets moved at all.

    • Glad to know I'm not the only one here who thinks it's complete BS. I doubt if Doc even gets traded this year to tell you the truth, the Jays might be in a rebuilding mode but trading away the franchise would be a big mistake. Doc is the only reason the Jays are even close to .500 in the hardest division in baseball.

    • There's a private room with 8 tables for exec's, I was seated there with my CEO and President.

You don't have to believe me, just passing on the message.

      • Who were these so-called execs talking about the trade. If it were somoene in the Blue Jays organization, I may be inclined to believe it, if not, hogwash.

Everyone knows that the Phils are the front runners. And, as a Met fan, I can honestly say that they will probably land him. But, I really don't see the Phils taking on Wells' contract. That's just too much for them and they don't typically eat that much. Consider this, Howard wanted a Wells type contract and they almost traded him...who would you rather have Wells or Howard.

If he goes, he goes. But I highly doubt both Halladay AND Wells end up on Philly. Who do they sit..Ibanez? Werth? Flyin' Hawaiian? None of the above...false.
