  • Seeking Opinions on this trade offer

I give up Russel Martin Javier Vasquez

I get Michael Young, David Price and Dioner Navarro

I am looking to upgrade my SS position.

Currently have Clint Barmes or Khalil Greene.

Does anyone also think Barmes/Greene will be as good as Young.

Barmes hs some real good upside. if you could count on him being healthy I would say no to this trade, however he was a health mess last year.

Greene's Ks and BA is going to hurt so I would not be starting him unless is was a deep league.

The trade itself is not too bad. Price has big time upside and while I do like Vasquez, I wouldn't expect a great season from him. The only thing is, if Navarro becomes your starting catcher, the overall drop in production from Martin to Navarro is major and is larger than the increase from Barmes/Greene to Young.

Overall, not a terrible trade, but I would likely not do it if Novarro becomes your starting catcher.

Barmes's injuries are not the concern, its Todd Helton's injuries and Troy Tulowitzki's that matter. Barmes got playing time last year because Helton and Tulo were out. With Helton and Tulo back they will move Atkins back to 3B meaning they will have to find someplace new for Ian Stewart to play. Ian can play 2B and they have tossed around the idea of him playing OF but the Rockies still have plenty of depth in the OF and Stewart is a far better hitter Barmes or Baker

I think Green could possibly have a decent year after moving to STL, Barmes is not worth having on your roster, he is a decent player but is sitting behind to many other good players in COL to get enough playing time to make a fantasy impact.

I do like this trade. I think Martin is very overrated. If you take the SB out of his stat line (he will lose them once his knees wear out) he is no where near as good as the other top catchers. At the same time I like Navarro a lot. He plays in a great line up and has the ability to hit for a high average so he will not hurt you at all.

Also, Price should have a solid season. I think a lot of people are forgetting his lack of experience and age and therefore over estimate his 09 stat line, however I think he will easily put up plenty of Ks which is about the only thing that you can really count on from Vasquez.
