Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
Taveras has to be one of the most unappreciated fantasy players in the game.
He's had back to back to back 30 steal seasons, including 2007, in which he only played in 97 games. He doesn't offer much more than the steals and a .270 average, but there were only 18 guys who stole 30+ bags last year.
This year, two of those guys will be fighting for playing time (Juan Pierre and Jerry Owens) and two have spent considerable time on the DL (Jimmy Rollins and Shane VIctorino. Only Michael Bourne has more stolen bases than Taveras, and he's hitting .200.
You're not going to get any power from Taveras and he may only hit .270, but he's also just 26 years old, so there's room for improvement in the average department. And based on his average last season (.320), it looks that improvement is coming.
If you really need steals, go for it.
