Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
Need help selecting my keepers. We lose the draft pick for the round of the player kept. Non PPR league.
Potential Keepers, Pick 3:
Aaron Rodgers (1st)
Roddy White (2nd)
Andre Johnson (3rd)
Doug Martin (4th)
Frank Gore (7th)
Danny Amendola (14th)
Cecil Shorts/Jonathan Dwyer/Vick Ballard/TY Hilton/Brian Hartline (FA pickups so i only lose last round pick)
The first 2 are no brainers: Rodgers and Martin. The 3rd one is where it gets tough. I think id be paying too much to keep white or johnson. Gore only losing a 7th rounder seems like a great value, but Ballard and Dwyer could both be starters, and shorts and hilton both had breakout years. Losing a last rounder is better than a 7th round pick. What would you do and why?
What # first round pick would you have if you did not keep rodgers? Think about it. If you would not take Rodgers with your first round pick normally, why keep him if you can get somebody like AP, Foster, or Calvin Johnson instead? If you have a late first round pick, then keep Rodgers.
Your best third keeper is Cecil Shorts.
Without knowing the proclivities of other managers in your league (do they hoard QBs? RBs?) it's always hard to say, but, apart from Martin, no one else jumps off the board. Shorts, Amendola (assuming he returns to the Rams or lands in a solid FA spot, like New England supplanting Welker) and Ballard are all values and I like Hilton almost as much and even more if Avery leaves and Collie returns to some semblance of playable health. QB figures to be so deep next year that drafting 1 of the elite 3 would not appeal to me as I don't see the premium points between Rodgers at 1 vs..say...Peyton at 3 or 4, but it's hard to argue with Rodgers as effectively the 12th overall pick. Mine would be 4 Martin, then Shorts and Hilton last unless QB or RB hoarding issues make Rodgers or Ballard more appealing. Good luck.

what's the deadline for keepers? my strategy in these situations is see who others pick 1st to see as ol'blues says if any position is being hoarded. i can tell you most likely rodgers won't last to your pick. i drafted peyton last season in 12th rd as 3rd qb in one league last season and see what i got in value? i always look at the league points for each position to see how the settings are set. what position do they favor if any?
on the other side, if you keep rodgers, you lose 1.10 pick and then have 2.1 right after? if so, i'd probably keep these three:
Rodgers 1.10 not bad pick and if serpentine draft style you get next pick in rd 2;
Martin obvious RB stud
Shorts/Hilton leaning toward Shorts since Hilton will be there in later rds.
