Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I love the U I do! Here's my breakdown though. (No Philly Eagles bias) I would take Gore. To say Portis is injury prone is to say the same on Gore. I just think 1. Gore's division is much easier. 2. Mike Martz uses the RB out of the backfield in his system. 3. They may need to check down a lot because of the QB situation. 4. Gore has good hands and if Vernon stays healthy should get lots of room.
Now for Portis, 1. new offense may not be as run heavy as with Gibbs. 2. Campbell is 1 year better may toss the piggy around more. 3. Hard division, u are talking Boys, Birds, and G-Men all top 10 D's (including Skins) last year. 4. Upside they are in a cold weather area late in the year running is the way to go. 5. I don't see the offense as super dynamic powerful so I can't see them blowing out a lot of teams for running while ahead.
Just my POV.

Definitely Gore over portis, not as many question marks, and Portis has been on the decline for the last three years (yards per attempt)
He does put up quite a bit of td's, but I think that Cooley, and Cmpbell are going to be taking away a couple of his goal line opportunities.
and for the Lynch fan
While I do think he is a very good back, he will not outperform Gore.
Yes he has a better offense line, and the Bills offense seems to be better but Gore ripped it up in 2006 behind an even more porous o-line
He played last year with a bum ankle all year and still put up respectable numbers
While Lynch had mroe yards a game (85 to 73), Gore had more total yards a game and is more of a threat to catch the ball than stone handed Lynch and had more total yards per game (102 to 100)
Gore also had a higher yards per carry than Lynch even though it was mor ethan half a yard short of his career average
Gore > Lynch
definitely Portis. Talent wise Gore is on par with Portis and a couple years younger, but Gore plays for arguably the worst offense in the entire league. He has no offense line, Alex Smith as his qb, the defense is gonna be loading up putting extra guys to stop him and because of San Fran's terrible offense he will fail once again to approach double digit TDs.
Portis on the other hand, is just as talented, coming off a better season, is playing for a much better team with a respectable qb and o-line unlike the niners'.
And let me throw another rb into consideration: Marshawn Lynch. He had a huge year last year and will only improve.
Gore. Portis is injury prone. Gore is headed for a bounce back year. gore was banged up last year. He is healthy now and the new offenseive situation gives him the potential to put up Stephen Jackson type numbers.
