Yesterday, the Mets' closer had shoulder tightness and needed an MRI. Today, the threat seems to have passed.
This seems like relatively good news, via Newsday:
Contrary to a report today, closer Billy Wagner is not scheduled to have an MRI today on his throwing shoulder.
Wagner felt better on the plane last night after having some trouble getting loose yesterday before striking out the side in the 10th inning of the Mets' 7-5 win over the Reds.
If Wagner wakes up today and feels tightness again, he may go see the Mets' doctor.
Sounds like maybe Wagner should have just gone with the PPO when he had the option. More choices, and frankly he can afford it.
If the Mets are pursuing someone like Fuentes, Rauch or Street, they would be wise to downplay the severity of any issue with Wagner's shoulder.
