Roto Arcade - Fantasy

The Angels have been notorious in the past for sitting on their hands during the trade deadline, but apparently this year is different. Los Angeles made the first big splash of deadline week today, sending Casey Kotchman and minor league pitcher Stephen Marek to Atlanta for slugger Mark Teixeira.

There's not a giant roto effect felt from this one — Tex is worth more in the American League, Kotchman less in the National League, but these aren't monstrous differences. Teixeira has a mediocre career record at the Big A (.245/.372/.465), but we're only talking about 155 at-bats. The biggest fantasy winners here are FAAB-hoarding owners in AL-only and NL-only groups.

It will be interesting to see how the other contenders respond to this swap; for now, there's little doubt that the Angels are the AL favorite on paper.

In other Tuesday items:

Mike Young is being told that he can play without causing additional damage to his broken finger, so he's been upgraded to day-to-day and might even play tonight.

There's a rumor in the New York Post about the Dodgers and Red Sox discussing a Manny Ramirez deal (Boston would get Matt Kemp or more likely Andre Ethier as part of the give-back). Take that for what it's worth.

Adam LaRoche's rib-cage injury ultimately forced a DL move, a shame because he's been white hot for a few weeks. Doug Mientkiewicz picks up the at-bats, something you can ignore in mixed leagues.

Hank Blalock missed Monday's game with a sore shoulder, not an upset stomach, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Catch you later in the Tuesday night edition of Closing Time. (The Andy Behrens portion of the program has been shifted to Wednesday for this week; he's in one of the 30 major league ballparks tonight, so be on the lookout.)

As a Matt Kemp owner, I think he'd look great in Boston's OF. :)

A 2 FOR 1 DEAL TO GET RID OF YOUR GOLD GLOVE FIRST BASEMAN (WHO HAS BEEN RAKING ALL YEAR)...??
Kotch only went deep last night in Boston to put the Halos ahead.
Hmm. I will have to let this one sink in, but is that an improvement? Sweet deal for Tex. Move away from the ATL to go to Sunny SoCal. Guess what Tex - win or lose - you are going to Disneyland.. Just make sure you bring a stick with you this time.

Yea, Angels are sick with the 1-6, throwing a hot H Kendrick into the mix. There's no way Teixeira will fare any worse with LA.
Manny to the Dodgers is claptrap drivel, not worthy of any blog. Kemp is clearly a superior fielder, yet Manny against Canseco would be a toss-up.
Angels vs Cubs in the Series.

So, by claiming 'first' (and then stating nothing in following), you are demonstrating that you wait around for these blogs to post so you can be the first person to say nothing? I'm sorry, I just don't get it. Is it proof that you don't have to work, or what? I'd just like to know.

Angels are the AL favorite on PAPER? Uhm, last time I checked they had the best record in baseball and with the acquisition of Teix they just went ALL-IN.

I think it will benefit Tex to be in Angel lineup, expecially with Chipper on DL (again). I think he could have a really good second half.
Dodgers won't give up Loney and Eithier for Man Ram. I could see either Eithier or Kemp or Loney going to Bosox in a trade with a couple minor leaguers. But not 2 of them. Don't think the Dodgers will do that. Although if they are willing to pick up his option years, they might.

Wow, I have to say this wasn't smart on part of the Braves - they're not a contender this yr anymore but seriously should have kept Teixeira. He's in his prime and would have been great to keep around in that lineup with McCann and Francoeur going forward. I hope that one minor leaguer is worth it... now if they traded for F-Rod that would have been an even fantasy trade, at least!! and the Braves have some serious pitching needs with everyone on the DL...

Dan C, you realize Tex is a FA next year, yeah? He wasn't going to resign with Atl, he's gonna' get a nice fat deal from a NY team or Anaheim. And trust me, I wish it wasn't so.

I need to get those em-dashes in there. Thanks TJ.
As for the "first" stuff, here's my first and last comment: I'm sad when I see comments hit the board that don't have value to other readers. If someone wants to claim "first" *and* tie it to a comment of value, okay, I guess I can live with that. But jumping on the board and only marking your territory, with nothing else on the slate, I don't understand that move. I'm kindly asking that everyone pause for a second and consider the group of blog readers before they post; when you do that, it's much appreciated.
That's my two cents, and the last time I'll address it.

The Dodgers would be idiots if they traded Kemp for Manny. Any of the others (Ethier etc), I could live with but then again the Dodgers are the IDIOTS who signed a useless Andruw Jones. I love Manny but not for Kemp!

that manny rumor is horrible. The Red Sox don't get anything near the production they are getting out of Manny, and why would they trade him for a lesser OF when they can keep him and just let him go at the end of the season? Makes no sense, horrible deal. Won't happen. Theo is too smart for that. He won't pull the trigger unless we get prospects or a bullpen arm at the very least.
