Roto Arcade - Fantasy

The points, yards and angles were flowing in the Big Easy Monday night, so settle in as we move through our fantasy audit.

With the Saints: Mike Bell(notes) got the heaviest workload in the New Orleans backfield but didn't do a lot with the opportunity; a measly 49 yards on 17 carries. Pierre Thomas(notes) came through when called upon, rushing for 91 yards and adding the acrobratic receiving touchdown you see above. Both backs lost a fumble in the second half but neither player has a history of ball-security problems. Fantasy owners get a sneaky boost from the Heath Evans(notes) injury; the fullback isn't around to vulture short-yardage touchdowns anymore.

Reggie Bush(notes) only has 17 touches in the last three weeks but somehow he's scored in each of those games. At times you forget he's on the New Orleans sideline. This is not a franchise player, this is a spare part, and Sean Payton seems to realize that as much as anyone. The Saints don't use Bush that much as a receiver anymore; he has just 15 grabs in his last six starts.

Drew Brees(notes) had little trouble dismantling the Atlanta secondary (25-for-33, 308 yards, 2 TDs, 1 Int) and Marques Colston(notes) continues to have a Pro Bowl season (6-85, TD). It's a little strange to see Jeremy Shockey(notes) (5-72) turning into a consistent performer; he's caught four or more balls in every game this season. You probably don't want to play roulette with the rest of the WR rotation; while Devery Henderson(notes) and Robert Meachem(notes) both had one long grab against the Falcons, Henderson hasn't scored since Week 1 and Meachem has just eight catches on the year. Lance Moore(notes) (4-29 the last two weeks) isn't in the circle of trust right now, either.

The New Orleans defense continues to terrorize the league, picking up three sacks, three interceptions and another touchdown runback (that's six for the year). The mayhem should continue in the next three weeks, up against the Panthers, Rams and Buccaneers. John Carney(notes) missed badly on his one field goal chance, so be ready to pounce if Garrett Hartley(notes) gets the call at some point.

With the Falcons: It's time to step off the ledge on Michael Turner(notes) (151 yards, TD), who was impressive from the word go, running with power and conviction. Okay, so you drafted him as the No. 2 or No. 3 back in your league, probably. He's currently ranked eighth or ninth at the position in a basic scoring league. Is that really so terrible? And if you can find a way to your championship game, Turner might win it for you – he's got a home date with Buffalo waiting in Week 16.

Matt Ryan(notes) was confused by the Saints secondary and the result was his worst game of the year (three picks – one of them a Hail Mary – and a 46.6 rating), though he still coaxed 289 yards and a touchdown out of the mess. He remains one of the safer picks at the position, with multiple scores in five of his seven starts. Roddy White(notes) deftly got away with a push-off on his 68-yard touchdown and had a second score washed out by a booth review. Tony Gonzalez(notes) (6-89) hasn't scored in four of his last five games but he nonetheless makes a fantasy impact just about every week. Michael Jenkins(notes) made a couple of big plays but he also gave us one of his trademark drops.

The Falcons defense had more success than most teams have against New Orleans, picking up four turnovers, two sacks and a defensive touchdown. Of course, it also allowed 35 points. Consider this unit as a possible plug-and-play against Washington this week.

It might be time to pull the plug on Jason Elam, who looked shaky on all of his kicks and only has six field goals on the season. Generally it's a good thing to be tied to a consistent offense like Atlanta's, but Elam doesn't look right at the moment.

This was the type of night Pierre Thomas owners wanted to see - Bell went nowhere, Bush wasn't a factor, and Payton didn't lose confidence in Thomas after PT's fumble. And that New Orleans defense, man, it's a weapon, the clear No. 1 fantasy unit at the position.

All I needed was 3 points from Moore to win my match. So brutal....

I needed 34 points from Brees, Colston and PT combined to win my matchup. I got double that (odd scoring system).

I told ya'll about PT bruiser...he had some goaline touches, too. Everybody was all scared because Mike Bell, Reggie, and Brees had goaline carries this year. Fantasy football is about risky decisions and patience at the same time. Good thing I got Brees and PT on my squad. Kudos to the patient PT owners...they got CAR, BUF, and TB coming up...let's GO!

It would be nice to see Thomas get more activity - even with this nice game, it was just 16 touches out the door - but he's certainly the most talented runner here, and he's tied to the best offense in the game. So long as Payton doesn't get silly with the workload distribution, we'll be happy with the numbers.

Ryan continues to get worse - he looks like he should have looked like last year - a rookie.
    Regression for Ryan.

Payton seems to split up the backs by quarter. PT got a lot of looks first half and Bell got a lot second half...but he mixes it up pretty well...so far...

FB Guru - This is how Ryan looked last year. He just looked like it less b/c it was the Turner show.
I had PT pegged as a top 5 back going forward since his return. Nothing has made me change my mind yet.
Elam doesn't just need to be cut from fantasy teams. He's a big part of that loss for the falcons. The game completely changes if he makes that chip shot. And they need a lot better secondary receiver than Jenkins. He looked lost when he wasn't dropping easy catches.
Give the defense credit on Atlanta's side. 35 points is less than New Orleans' average. And two were the result of poor offensive play.
New Orleans has a lot of great players, so I understand the "spare part" comment. But at worst, Bush is a dynamite returner. And he's not at worst. He's still a powerful satellite player.

I LIKE THE SAINTS, however all good things must come to an end. i believe in peaks and valleys and timing and with that said, i do not think the saints can continue at this rate. they start to lose there muster week 11 and the air goes out of their collective sails. will they get a second wind in the playoffs??? maybe, we will see!

Good call on Elam, he looks done. At this point, he has only about a 50 yard leg, and very shaky accuracy. Probably actually a slight downgrade from Morten Andersen a couple years back, due to the accuracy issues. Anybody got Mike Vanderjagt's number? Is he still in shape?
It's great for the Falcons to have a guy like Tony Gonzales, but Ryan keys on him too much. He needs to spread the ball around a little more. But this is only his 23rd (or so) regular season game; he'll get better and he's already pretty good. Jenkins' primary worth to the Falcons is as a blocker. He is a decent secondary receiver with pretty good speed and somewhat suspect hands (but that was a GREAT throw and grab at the end, granted after a booth replay), but the guy is just a notch below Hines Ward as a blocker.
I see the Falcons gaining a wildcard spot eventually, and beating the Saints in Atlanta.

He had Roddy "Push 'em When the ref can't see you" White... I had PT.
He was up by 3 points with three minutes left in the game.... then PT turns into the prime time missile into the endzone.....
Love to see grown men weep.

Also, last year 'Fullback' Heath Evans poached numerous TD's and teams dont use fullbacks anymore, let alone the Saints. Teams use TE and pulling guards now. So it does help P.T. and Bell with him out of the picture.

(haven't read all the posts on here as i type this)...Yes Ryan threw 3 pick...last one was the hail mary but the one that went pick-6??? Pianow, you say Roddy got away with a pushoff on his TD...but what about the PI that should of been called on the pick-6...Roddy got ran into by a defender not looking at the ball and caused him to not even come close to atleast breaking it up?

In my league we have it set up like this: 1 qb, 2 rbs, 2 wr, a rb/wr flex spot, 1 te, 1k, and def. I traded Benson and Boldin for Turner and Colston! I now have a 3 QB rotation between Flacco, Cutler, and Palmer... Steven Jackson, Michael Turner, and Marion Barber as my RB's...I have Derrick Mason and Marques Colston as my WRs...and Dallas Clark as my TE...I know this has no revelance, but I love my team and like to brag a bit!

Anybody else notice the balance that PT has? Sometimes it looks like he is about to fall. Then, the next thing you know: he is still running. Amazing body control.
