With Hanrahan out, Mike MacDougal, a former all-star closer with the Kansas City Royals, will take over the ninth-inning role. The decision came one day after Hanrahan demonstrated his vulnerability and MacDougal, in the two batters he faced, looked fearless.
That's right: fearless. Stare into those steely eyes above. They shall bring you courage. Let MacDougal's strength become your own.
MacDougal has appeared in four games for Washington, allowing two hits and two unearned runs. He has three Ks and one walk in 2.2 innings. Back in April, he was an absolute wreck with the White Sox: 4.1 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 7 BB, 3 K, 12.46 ERA, 3.23 WHIP. And now he's a closer. Do whatever you have to with this information. We'll look the other way.
