If you're relatively new to fantasy football, then Larry Johnson(notes) is an uncomplicated character. LJ's release from the Chiefs is a non-event. All the recent anecdotal evidence suggests that he's a complete tool; all the recent statistical evidence suggests that he could be finished as a productive NFL back. Johnson is not a player who requires serious analysis.

But if you're not new to fantasy football – let's say, hypothetically, that you owned LJ in a highly incentivized dynasty league from 2004 to '06 – then his release still feels like news. The guy scored 51 touchdowns over 38 games before crashing. It was a profitable ride.

The Texans and Redskins are both reportedly kicking Johnson's high-mileage tires, so don't think this is the last LJ headline you'll encounter. Gary Kubiak says "We're going to do our homework" on Johnson. Jim Zorn acknowledged that his team has "had internal discussions."  Other teams are likely to investigate, too – and they're looking at game tape, not personnel files. In the NFL, solid character is almost a distraction.

The immediate fantasy fallout for KC is fairly well known; we've been through the drill before. You can expect Jamaal Charles(notes) and Kolby Smith(notes) to form a low-yield committee in LJ's absence. The Chiefs don't yet have a rushing TD this season, although the Week 10 trip to Oakland may fix that shortcoming. Both Charles and Smith belong on rosters in deeper, competitive leagues.

But let's not focus on them today. Instead, let's gather in comments to celebrate LJ, a first ballot fantasy Hall of Famer if ever there was one. And still an absolute tool.

I sure hope the texans pass his over. That would be so disappointing to see him on my team.

He had 2 good seasons... that makes him a fantasy hall of famer? I think it makes him more of a fantasy let down. This guy should have had a remarkable career, instead he flamed out and has been useless ever since, and a thorn in the side of anyone who owned him (like I did last season).

Why the hell would the Redskins want this guy? It's idiotic. Headline: Disastrous Franchise Seeks Washed Up Moron.
LJ owners should hope he signs with the Texans; Moats/Slaton owners should shudder at the thought.

What if you're all wrong and L.J. goes all Cedric Benson on your asses. That'd be grand......definitely still a tool though.

I'm not understanding why the hell the Texans would even want him? They seem to have 2 talented RB's in Slaton/Moats....

So sick of all you fantasy geeks talking all this trash about football players who will chew you up and spit you out if you dare to talk that trash face to face.

I'm not sure Moats is all that talented and Slaton can't hang on to the football. But both might still be better than LJ.

Every once in a while, a complete tool of a man is blessed with the talent to earn buckets o cash, but then never develops into a worthwhile human being deserving of any respect . . . . I look forward to the continued self directed freefall of one of the NFL's all time greatest tools as he becomes little more than the embarrassment to his family that he already is and an occasional paragraph in the police blotter. As a former female college athlete who never quite understood the elevated staus automatically afforded some athletes . . . it's a pleasure to watch this happening.

No, I really liked Charles vs. JAC. And it might have worked if they gave him the ball.
Just meant that the team's running game, over the full year, seems low-yield...what with the zero touchdowns.
