It's one of these things, we're pretty sure:
1) Cueto runs on Christmas spirit, which is dangerously low in St. Louis.
2) Tony La Russa disturbed him with powerful brainwaves of geniusness. Cueto must learn Occlumency to prevent the Dark Lord from reading his thoughts.
3) Even though he only walked one batter, command was an issue. Those off-speed pitches in the first inning were elevated and hittable. His fastball was still 94-96 mph, but it was not always well-located, and you just don't have much margin for error with Major League hitters.
Also, Adam Dunn and Ken Griffey Jr. are butchers in the field, and that broken-bat bloop by Ankiel fell just beyond Brandon Phillips' reach. If caught, that would have prevented four runs.
4) The arrival of Max Scherzer frightens him very much.
5) Ever since he was a small child in San Pedro de Macoris, Johnny Cueto has dreamed of being both a sell-high candidate and a buy-low candidate in the same calendar month.
We're thinking that the correct answer is No. 2, and we'll do our best to confirm.

You think it's time to drop Liriano in 12 team mixed teams? I want to, but I'm having trouble letting go.

I recently dropped Brad Hawpe for Matt Kemp in a competitive 10 manager league. This was about a week after I passed up the opportunity to claim Carlos Quentin on waivers which of course I regret. What do you think of the Kemp for Hawpe acquisition?
In the same league, I recently dropped Mark Reynolds for Evan Longoria. This was a couple of days after I passed up the opportunity to claim Edwin Encarnacion on waivers. Out of those 3 third basemen, who do you believe has the highest ceiling in 2008?
I am getting real fed up with some up of my struggling stars in these Head to Head competitive leagues. I have been very patient with Cano to this point. Would you drop him for Polanco at this point in the season?
I have Soriano set to come off the DL. I am thinking about dropping either Carlos Pena or Travis Hafner. Who do you recommend I drop or do you believe both will bounce back to have good seasons and that I should drop a less established player who is red hot right now?
Finally, my patience was beginning to wear thin with Troy Tulowitzki. Fortunately, I can now place him on the DL. I was thinking about either adding a hitting prospect in his absence or a starter or set-up man (holds) in his absence. What hitting prospect recently called up by the Mariners would you believe would be the most sure thing at this point? Clement or Balentin?
Thanks for convincing me to drop Cueto for Mad Max! Just wish I originally had picked up Edison Volquez instead from the start. What are your thoughts on Jurrjens of the Braves as to what he can accomplish in 2008?
I greatly appreciate all your advice and learn a great deal from your daily columns!
