Let's take a look at some of the fantasy ramifications of another reasonably busy Wednesday night in the NBA.
• Elton Brand's fantasy owners let out a collective
"That's more like it!" when
taking in tonight's line: 25 points, 8 boards, 1 steal, 3 blocks. Now we just need to start seeing it on a
regular basis. Andre Iguodala had another
stat-stuffer (18 points, 9 boards, 10 assists) and has looked pretty good over
the past three (16.3 points, 10 boards, 7.6 assists).
• Another day, another solid effort from Marquis Daniels (16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals in 32 minutes) wasted in the 52% of Yahoo! leagues where he remains un-rostered.
• Elsewhere for the Pacers: Danny Granger didn't play because of a quad cramp and Troy Murphy missed the game because of a continued bout with stomach flu. Brandon Rush (8 points, 2 threes, 2 steals, 1 block in 23 minutes) and Rasho Nesterovic (10 points, 2 boards, 1 steal in 25 minutes) got the starts in their respective places.
• Devin Harris was out for his third consecutive game because of his left ankle sprain, but Lawrence Frank said that "he's making good progress" and a Friday return is "a possibility".
• Everything was falling for the Knicks (.591 FG%, .559 3PT%, 1.000 FT%) versus the Grizzlies tonight – when Chris Duhon scores in double figures (12), it's going to be a good night. The star of the show was the under-rostered (58%) Wilson Chandler, however – he made 11 of his 12 field goals (4-of-4 threes) en route to 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block.
• Is it tough for you to see Rudy Gay joining the true fantasy elite this season, given the makeup of the Grizz at this point? He's going to score 20 every game because he has to, but the boards are down now that he's playing SF almost exclusively and he's got little recourse when defenses key on him (16 assists, 33 turnovers through nine games). With that said, he started slow last season, too.
• The Hawks played great defense against the Celtics (held them to .421 FG%) and stayed in the game almost completely because of the three-point shot (13-22), but Paul Pierce was money when he had to be (as in, with roughly a second remaining) and finished with a game-high 34 points. Maurice Evans had three treys for the second consecutive game and is going to have relevance in deeper leagues for as long as Josh Smith is sidelined.
• Yikes. That's about the only reaction that the Spurs' box score from this evening produces. Roger Mason had his third consecutive poor shooting night while Michael Finley hit double figures for the second straight game. Mason remains the only non-Duncan Spur to consider in most leagues – in 61 starts last season, Finley only managed 10.2 points on 42 percent shooting, and it's hard to imagine his quality of shots will be improved on the current Spurs. The PG situation (George Hill, Anthony Tolliver, Jacque Vaughn) figures to be a platoon... just like SF and C.
• Ready to drop Charlie Villanueva yet? He came off the bench tonight behind Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, scored six points in 11 minutes, and left the game with a hamstring injury. It's hard to think that Charlie V won't be contributing at some point this season, but he's going to have to do it as a reserve for now.
• It's hard to believe that the Wizards got their first win
of the season (1) against the Jazz and (2) in a game where three of their
starters combine
for nine points. JaVale McGee
registered his second double-double in three games (13 points, 11 boards, 3
blocks in 27 minutes) and deserves a look – he's bringing what the
Wizards were hoping Andray Blatche would, and Etan Thomas continues to play
sparingly as the starter.
• Dwight Howard logged his first triple-double of his career (30 points, 19 boards, 10 blocks) and you just knew his first wouldn't come via assists. He's well on his way to meeting his personal goal of leading the league in both boards and blocks, and he's the No.1 player in fantasy when you take FT% out of the equation.
• Nice to see Jameer Nelson score 17 and hit three treys. Now if he'd only do it more often than once in a while.
• Jeff Green becomes more interesting for fantasy purposes if he's suddenly a high-volume shooter from long range – provided, of course, that he continues to make a solid percentage of them. He hit three tonight (on six attempts) and has now averaged 2.0 over his past six games. He's also shot just 38 percent from the field, so that takes a bit of a shine off of things.
• Kevin Durant missed tonight's game because of a sore left ankle and he's day-to-day.
• Lots of empty seats watching Rudy Fernandez go for a career-high 25 in 29 minutes for the Blazers in Miami tonight. He's going to be a good one (technically, he already is). Dwayne Wade was huge once again (36 points, 6 boards, 8 assists, 2 steals, blocks) and the only reason the Heat were even competitive. Shawn Marion added injury to insult by missing his second consecutive game due to a groin injury, but he could return Friday.
• Greg Oden was back in the lineup tonight, but played just 16 minutes (3 points, 2 boards, 2 blocks) and the Blazers are going to be very cautious in increasing his role. At least he's not going to be providing zeros across the board any more.
• Andrew Bynum could be the one providing the biggest challenge to D12 for the blocks crown – he blocked four more shots tonight and has fewer than three in just one of seven games on the season, and that's been in just under 30 minutes per game.
• Chris Paul gave his best effort (30 points, 7 rebounds, 13 assists, 2 steals) but didn't get much help from anyone outside of David West in the loss to the Lakers. In other news, Paul got my MVP vote last season.
• You'll see it replayed everywhere over the next 24 hours or so, but the fracas in Phoenix was best described by Hubie Brown when he said "everything was a grab and a push". Matt Barnes is probably looking at a game off for throwing a shoulder into Rafer Alston, but that may be the only suspension that results as he was the instigator and nobody else was exceptionally far out of line.
• Alston was ejected for taking issue with Barnes, and Aaron Brooks played well in his stead (19 points in 25 minutes) – it needs to be noted that Alston was on his way to a very good game himself (15 points, 3 steals, 4 assists, 0 turnovers in 27 minutes).
• Raise your hand if you doubted that Beno Udrih was going to score 30 points in a game this season, let alone tonight. Over the past two games, while Kevin Martin has been sidelined, Udrih has averaged 24 points, 6 boards, 5 assists, and 1.5 steals. Both Martin and Francisco Garcia are expected to be out for the next week to 10 days, so Udrih will have the opportunity to stay aggressive on offense. Feel free to pick Jason Thompson back up for the short-term – he looks like the team's fifth starter while Martin is out, and he's gone for 15/9 and 16/11 over the past two games.
• Jason Richardson woke up in the middle of the night Tuesday night with swelling and pain in his right knee – an MRI didn't show any structural damage, but his knee was scoped just to be sure and he's expected to be out around a week.

Also, I take issue with the Rudy Gay comment. No, I'm not a Memphis native or fan, but the Memphis system could produce four top-120 fantasy starters by late December. Wait, did I just say something positive about Mike Conley? What have I become?

I'm liking Ronald Murray in Atlanta, Buser. Especially when compared to my DeShawn Stevenson. What do you think?
Also, hahaha@Banderas. I know what you mean. Mayo is becoming a little beast and Conley needs to step it up. He can. He just needs to do it.
You're the best Buser!

7. - I am Memphis native and I do see Gay, Mayo and Gasol as top 120 fantasy but speak of conley, I don't see him as produce much and keep split minutes with lowry.
My roster is (play as h2h league):
PG - Chris Paul
SG - Joe Johnson
G - Devin Harris
SF - Rudy Gay
PF - Zach Randolph
F - Mike Miller
C - Al Jefferson
C - Jermaine O'Neal
Ut - Luol Deng
Ut - Richard Jefferson
BN - Spencer Hawes
BN - Manu Ginobili
BN - Yi Jianlian

Oh, and Julio ( posting # 1 ) I'm happy to say that the Lakers will not be winning any more championships with Kobe. He'll be retired by the time the C's are done racking them up! GOOOOOO CELTICS !

The lakers might as well start rebuilding now. They won't be winning anything for a while.
