Going, going, Gallardo.
The bad news came early today. Yovani Gallardo tore his ACL and will likely be done for the year.
Reading the comment thread, it appears that the consensus from the fantasy masses is that trading Gallardo before the injury was good, losing him from an active roster is bad and thank goodness there's still Max Scherzer.
• Let's get Chicago's assessment of Rich Hill's latest outing directly from manager Lou Piniella's mouth.
""Hill can't start like this in the big leagues. C'mon. Every time he pitches, it's an adventure. He's doing his best, but we have no bullpen. I don't know what the solution is, but I can't start him any more until this thing gets taken care of."
Hill got the hook Friday after recording just two outs. Piniella had flat-out had it. Sean Marshall appears destined to join the rotation.
• Sixty-six percent owned Matt Kemp now has five stolen bases in his last four games.
• Toronto righty Shaun Marcum had some soup, ate a banana and wore powder blue Friday. Not sure which didn't agree with him, but Marcum threw up after the first and second innings. He also struck out nine and allowed only three walks and a pair of singles in 6.2 innings. The 26-year-old should be inching toward universal ownership.
• Those Blue Jays are doing everything they can not to use closer B.J. Ryan on back-to-back nights. Since Ryan threw 25 pitches Thursday, it was Scott Downs who got the call and earned his second save Friday. Toronto has a number of options after Ryan, so there's no clear Plan B.
• John Lannan's Nationals-record scoreless inning streak was snapped at 21 by Pittsburgh Friday. He failed to strike out a batter while allowing five runs on six hits in three innings. You can read more about Lannan here and draw your own conclusions about his latest effort.
• Twins speedster Carlos Gomez stole a pair of bases Friday but was KO'd in the process. Doesn't sound serious, but his status for Saturday is questionable.
• Shane Victorino's first stolen base attempt since returning from a recurring calf injury was successful. Jason Werth also swiped a bag, his fourth, as the Phils started both and sat Geoff Jenkins against a lefty. Good to see the 30-percent available Victorino up and running again as he frontloaded most of his steals last year before that pesky calf slowed him up.
• The early return on the "can one at-bat jump-start a season?" question is: No. Ryan Howard was 0-for-5 with three strikeouts Friday.
• Friday's blown saves of note: San Francisco's Brian Wilson (snapped 8-for-8 streak, no worries) and St. Louis' Jason Isringhausen (3rd blown save; ERA balloons to 7.11).

I need a closer so took on lot of risk by swinging a deal for him and Swisher, had to give up Kotchman and C Young (SP). Too risky?

I'm betting it was either a Boston Cream Donut, or Dustin McGowan's porkchops.
