Today, we find this distressing exchange in the Cincinnati Enquirer:

Something is wrong with Palmer's elbow. It's something worse than fatigue or soreness or mild inflammation. We don't know what it is ... Read this exchange between Palmer and the press after the loss Sunday, and decide for yourself:

"Did the MRI show anything scary?''

Palmer: "I'm not going to comment on everything.''

"Do you think it's long term?"

Palmer, after a pause: "I hope not.''

So yeah, the elbow inflammation is a serious concern. The source of the injury was a sack by the Giants' Corey Webster in Week 3. Palmer reportedly wanted to play against Cleveland and he was designated the Bengals' third quarterback, so there's still reason to hope. But there are also a few reasons to worry.

Quick: Name a heavily-owned quarterback you'd actually be willing to trade for Palmer right now.

Jon Kitna? Brian Griese? OK, maybe. But J.T. O'Sullivan? Trent Edwards? Jason Campbell? No, probably not.

I'd bet his arm has been bothering him all year and would perhaps explain his sorry numbers. If he needs Tommy John surgery or something similar, that wouldn't be caused by one sack against the Giants.

I think you are a bit slow Zack. He is saying that he might trade kitna or griese or Palmer, but he wouldnt trade the 3 players you mentioned for Palmer.

What about Derek Anderson? Is he considered droppable now? I've shopped him around and nobody wants him. My other QB is Aaron Rodgers. I am going to be in a world of hurt soon. Bad drafting.

I'd trade whatever QB the Rams are starting that week for Palmer. That, or Joe Flacco.

I am glad Palmer did not start yesterday, I play fantasy and had to bench him. Let's be realistic though the Browns needed that win!!!!!!! GO BROWNS!!!!!!

    Re: Anderson...
As Scott reminded me yesterday when I was demanding some Brady Quinn, the Browns' upcoming schedule is rough: bye, NYG, at WAS, at JAX, BAL. If Cleveland is going to test drive Quinn, maybe they choose to do it when the team is 2-6 and about to face Denver and Houston.
No, you really can't deal Anderson for anything right now, and he's been fired in nearly 8,500 leagues so far today. I don't know your exact situation obviously, but yeah, I can imagine being in a Rodgers/Anderson predicament in Week 5, and deciding that Anderson was the most droppable player on my roster.

I traded Warner for him a few weeks back, and cut Favre for him just a few days ago. I'm starting Romo and McNabb in the leagues respectively. I thought maybe Palmer would be a possibility long term, but it looks like I screwed up big time and won't be using a roster spot on a backup QB soon. I'll more than likely just pick someone up for the bye week in Week 7 and I think 10.

Pile it all on Zack everybody. DA and Palmer are beyond droppable - they are drops. In a Y! Public, no reason whatsoever to own either. DA maybe has a bench slot in a really deep league.

Lee and Rick - I think you're right about DA. He just doesn't have it this year and there are too many viable options. I am sure somebody who has space on the roster and a good qb already might pick him up and wait it out, but I don't have that option anymore. So now I've got to decide between JTO, Matt Schaub, or Kyle Orton. Do you think Mark Bulger will be moved back to starter? Too bad everyone in my league is too chicken to trade anyone. I've got some great rb's I've offered - no takers (addai, jacobs, chris johnson, jonathan stewart, ronnie brown). Oh well. And to think somebody in our league sits Romo every week because he plays Brees every week instead. One would think he would be interested in trading for a good rb or wr, but he's not.

A couple of weeks ago I traded Edge for Palmer and the people in my league were belly-aching that I ripped the other manager off. I didn't see it that way then, and I sure as hell don't see it that way now. Palmer was really just for insurance (as long as Cutler stays healthy, he's my starter), so if Palmer is indeed out for an extended period then I guess I'll probably do as another poster mentioned and drop Palmer and just carry one QB.
Still though, after the whipping my team took this week (none of my guys showed up) this Palmer development is certainly making me even more cranky than I was already.

Ugly QB situation in Ohio all around. DA sucks (and sucked at the end of last year after I gave up Willis "I'll wait till I'm off your team to start scoring" McGahee for him...grrr....) and Palmer's bad and now maybe out.
If you just need to fill a roster spot w/ someone who won't get you a 0 (Palmer) or possibly NEGATIVE numbers (Anderson) Kitna and Bulger will be better options (and both will be playing, and probably throwing a lot)...or even Brian Griese. Hell, Kyle Orton will be available for bye-week fill-in in most leagues.
Quite a change of fantasy fortune from last year's Week 2 shootout, eh?

You guys play shallow leagues. I'm in an 18 teamer and owner of Palmer, so I can't drop Palmer until the report comes out that he is having surgery. Even guys like Thigpen and Flynn are rostered in this league.
I hope his visit to Bad News Andrews reveals tired arm and no structural damage. Luckily I drafted Trent Edwards in the 18th round, and is outperforming his ADP, so even with worst case scenario I'm only slightly @#$%ed, and not completely @#$%ed.
