During Sunday's miserable Browns-Bengals game, the broadcasters suggested that Carson Palmer might need to travel to Alabama soon to face the Dark Lord, Dr. James Andrews.
Today, we find this distressing exchange in the Cincinnati Enquirer:
Something is wrong with Palmer's elbow. It's something worse than fatigue or soreness or mild inflammation. We don't know what it is ... Read this exchange between Palmer and the press after the loss Sunday, and decide for yourself:
"Did the MRI show anything scary?''
Palmer: "I'm not going to comment on everything.''
"Do you think it's long term?"
Palmer, after a pause: "I hope not.''
So yeah, the elbow inflammation is a serious concern. The source of the injury was a sack by the Giants' Corey Webster in Week 3. Palmer reportedly wanted to play against Cleveland and he was designated the Bengals' third quarterback, so there's still reason to hope. But there are also a few reasons to worry.
Quick: Name a heavily-owned quarterback you'd actually be willing to trade for Palmer right now.
Jon Kitna? Brian Griese? OK, maybe. But J.T. O'Sullivan? Trent Edwards? Jason Campbell? No, probably not.

As Scott reminded me yesterday when I was demanding some Brady Quinn, the Browns' upcoming schedule is rough: bye, NYG, at WAS, at JAX, BAL. If Cleveland is going to test drive Quinn, maybe they choose to do it when the team is 2-6 and about to face Denver and Houston.
No, you really can't deal Anderson for anything right now, and he's been fired in nearly 8,500 leagues so far today. I don't know your exact situation obviously, but yeah, I can imagine being in a Rodgers/Anderson predicament in Week 5, and deciding that Anderson was the most droppable player on my roster.

Still though, after the whipping my team took this week (none of my guys showed up) this Palmer development is certainly making me even more cranky than I was already.

If you just need to fill a roster spot w/ someone who won't get you a 0 (Palmer) or possibly NEGATIVE numbers (Anderson) Kitna and Bulger will be better options (and both will be playing, and probably throwing a lot)...or even Brian Griese. Hell, Kyle Orton will be available for bye-week fill-in in most leagues.
Quite a change of fantasy fortune from last year's Week 2 shootout, eh?

I hope his visit to Bad News Andrews reveals tired arm and no structural damage. Luckily I drafted Trent Edwards in the 18th round, and is outperforming his ADP, so even with worst case scenario I'm only slightly @#$%ed, and not completely @#$%ed.
