Entering Week 8, Houston running back Ryan Moats(notes) had not achieved fantasy relevance since 2005, his rookie year. Back then he was a member of the Eagles. He carried 55 times for 278 yards and three touchdowns over the final six games of a last-place season, in relief of an injured Brian Westbrook(notes).

Those '05 stats accounted for 56 percent of his career rushing yardage and 75 percent of his career TDs prior to Sunday afternoon's game at Buffalo…and then he absolutely shredded the NFL's worst run defense.

Moats had 23 carries for 126 yards and three scores against the Bills. Highlights here. He was in line for nothing more than a supporting role against Buffalo, but starter Steve Slaton(notes) lost yet another fumble in the first quarter and was benched for the remainder of the game. (All year, Slaton has treated fumbling as if it were a scripted play. He's lost the football in four of Houston's last five games). Moats is not the league's flashiest runner, nor is he as dangerous as Slaton when presented with an opening. But he's also not as threatening to his own team as Slaton; Moats has lost just one fumble in 150 career touches.

He had massive running lanes to work with against the Bills, and he didn't let them go to waste. He's an obvious fantasy add this week, although his head coach hasn't yet eliminated Slaton from the rotation.

"Ryan took advantage of the situation," coach Gary Kubiak said, although he demurred when asked if Moats is the new starter. "We'll go to next week. We'll see."

If Moats hasn't officially earned the starter's role, he's at least secured a share of the workload. Slaton becomes a roster problem. There's now a window to acquire him at (presumably) very little cost if you're in a cash-rich position, near the top of the standings. Houston gets Jacksonville in Week 13 and St. Louis in Week 15; some member of the Texans' backfield is going to prove useful.

The working assumption is that he'll miss the remainder of the season. Daniels entered Week 8 as the leading scorer at his position, so this is no small fantasy event. He'll be replaced by some combination of veteran Joel Dreessen(notes) and rookie James Casey(notes). But if you require a replacement for fantasy purposes, look to widely available options Dustin Keller(notes) (48 percent owned), Benjamin Watson(notes) (37), Kevin Boss(notes) (28) or Fred Davis(notes) (5). The 6-foot-5 Floyd is clearly a more dangerous weapon than Chris Chambers(notes), a fact that the Chargers had to react to sooner or later. Floyd finally started ahead of Chambers in Week 8; Philip Rivers(notes) opened the game by connecting with Floyd on a 53-yard jump ball. Add him. He's only five percent-owned. [The Associated Press]

Delhomme apparently spent the final minutes of his team's win over Arizona at a nearby hospital, getting "a CT scan to check on his chest injury." But he does not expect to miss next week's clash against the Saints. In related news, Steve Smith found the end zone in Week 8 against the Cardinals. We'd tell you to get Smith on the Trading Block, but he's probably there already, and no one's making inquiries. [Charlotte Observer]

http://a323.yahoofs.com/ymg/ept_sports_fantasy_experts__20/ept_sports_fantasy_experts-693121030-1257176218.jpg?ymaCJJCDXfqWAz2wJudy Battista delivered a fine summary of the Larry Johnson(notes) situation on Sunday, concluding this way: "The league will not impose its own discipline because the team acted first, and the league agreed with its actions. With that settled, there is no guarantee General Manager Scott Pioli ever allows Johnson to play for the Chiefs again. … The Chiefs, who are in rebuilding mode anyway, could decide that Johnson causes too many headaches for too little production."

Fantasy owners have already decided as much. In all likelihood, the only reason Kansas City hasn't released LJ already is that the team doesn't want to map out an exit strategy for disgruntled players. Jamaal Charles(notes) is the primary fantasy add there; Kolby Smith(notes) should get a few touches as well. [The Fifth Down]

At everything. We'll look at every single position.'" If a tree falls in the woods – let's call it Brady Quinn(notes) – but it has no chance whatsoever to produce any fantasy points… [The Cleveland Plain Dealer]

Boldin was clearly limited by the injury before the re-tweaking, so a weekend of rest could have longer-term benefits. [The Arizona Republic]

So much for the Arizona defense stepping up big this week. I advise everyone to do the opposite of whatever these "experts" advise from here on out..

Watching Moats take all of Slaton's carries and scoring points at will yesterday was brutal. Even Larry Johnson could have run through those holes. I had a chance to trade him before the weekend for Roddy White, but I was going to wait until after this dream matchup. Of course the owner retracted the offer. Now, I wouldn't even be able to get Vanna.

Amen Ryan S! I started the Cards D because the Panthers were supposed to be this inept offense. So much for that. Here's some advice to anyone who plays FF: make your own damn decisions. These experts aren't prophets. They don't know any more about the games outcome than you do. It's amazing that they even make a living with their "forecasting."

Thanks for stinking up my first place roster Butterfingers. I keep checking the wire, but it's like going back to the fridge every 10 minutes and hoping that stale mayo has magically transformed into something edible. I'd even settle for a left-over Hot Pocket at this point. Which of course means I've got a Moats queued up, but even if I get him who's to say this will be anything better than a time share.

Nobody, I repeat NOBODY can predict the future. That's why we play the games. Fantasy experts make educated guesses-sometimes they don't pan out. Many times they do though. Get this, if you are in a position where you have to rely on experts to make your picks-then YOU are not running your team. Why even play then??? I am left wondering where is the fun in reading and reacting to experts telling you who to start? Make your own picks!! Use your own brains-as in the end-you are accountable for who you start!! I'm tired of hearing people wimper about bad calls every week!!! Get over it! Run your own team!!!

To the tools complaining about the AZ defense. Carolina had been a dog offensively, and Delhome was throwing about 34 INT's a game. It was a great matchup and went south - you're blaming who? Why?

Good post about Moats, I just wanted to add that i don't think his only advantage is not fumbling. Yes, buffalo has a horrible defense, but he displayed much more decisiveness than Slaton when running between the tackles. There's no question, slaton is more explosive, but there is something to be said for keeping the chains moving. Its been extremely frustrating watch slaton dance around and get taken down for 0-2 yard gains over and over. This in combination with ball control makes moats a very real threat to replace slaton as the primary ball carrier. I guess we'll see next week when they have to play a less horrible defense.

Yeah, you fantasy guys are full of crap most of the times. Few weeks back, don't play benson vs. balt....well I did and booyah..scored big time. Couple weeks back, don;t play Sidney Rice vs. Ike taylor....once again I go with my gut and score....so all this to say people go with you gut instincts. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose..do some research and make your own decisions. Even these fantasy guru's are wrong half of the time...they just know all the statistics and make educated guesses....nothing more..

I'm glad Eric Mangini is looking at absolutely everything, including the possibility of firing himself.
Nevertheless, despite all the looks, the Browns currently have not just ONE lousy QB, but two of them ... as well as nothing else, either offensively or defensively.
    Sorry, Brownies.

Waaaaaaah! The fantasy experts FORCED me to do what they suggested, and I lost and they suck! I couldn't figure it out for myself, so Brad Evans actually broke into my league, changed my roster for me, and LOCKED ME OUT! So HE is to blame for my loss!
Without these 'experts', NO ONE would have started one of the HIGHEST SCORING D's (Arizona) against an offense that had turned the ball over a BILLION times up to then. Obviously, that was a stupid decision.
They also told me to start Owen Daniels! THEY SUCK! They didn't know he was going to blow out his knee?! What kind of 'experts' are they!!??

there was nothing wrong with playing ARI def sunday ...delhomme has been a useless sack of crap all year and ARI run defense has been really good, and should have been able to minimize damage done by DeWill & Stewart ... so it didn't work out that way, "that's why they play the games" ... who would have picked that upset besides a Panthers fan? no one
I am far more upset that Slaton managed to get negative points vs the worst run D in football...

Actually my defense has been one of my biggest plays every week. I have Philly's Def and they've done great all season, but there was two weeks that I didn't start them. Week 4 they were on BYE so I started 49ers Def v the Rams that was 30+ pts. Then this week I started Da Bears Def v the Browns, instead of Philly v Giants. Da Bears got me 27 pts, and philly only would've got me 9 pts. That's a big difference.
