Commonwealth Stadium attendance has not only been down, its on pace for historic lows.

UK's attendance is currently averaging 50,408 through four games. If that pace is maintained, it would be the lowest since 1996 (40,647) and the sixth-lowest attendance average in the 39 years of Commonwealth Stadium.

It would also easily be the lowest attendance average since the stadium expanded in 1999. Since then, the lowest season average is 57,330 fans, in 2006. UK would have to average 66,559 fans over its last three games to end up higher than that average.

UK's average attendance has been hurt by record-low single-game turnouts.

Three of UK's first four games (Kent State, South Carolina, Mississippi State) were played in front of less than 50,000 people.

There had been 19 sub-50,000 games in the 39 of Commonwealth Stadium and zero since expansion.

The breakdown of sub-50,000 attendances by year:

-- 1973 (two games of less than 50,000)

-- 1982 (1)

-- 1986 (1)

-- 1988 (3)

-- 1989 (1)

-- 1991 (1)

-- 1992 (1)

-- 1993 (1)

-- 1994 (3)

-- 1995 (1, a record-low 25,231)

-- 1996 (4)

-- 2012 (3 and counting)

If the season continues the way it has been, attendances figure to keep dropping. UK plays Georgia, Vanderbilt and Samford at home in the next five weeks.
