A source in the Cal football program said that defensive back Stefan McClure "might redshirt this year."
With the kind of injury McClure sustained toward the end of last season -- tearing three constituent parts in the knee -- 10 years ago, was a career-ender. He had another surgery about a month and a half or two months ago, because the swelling wasn't going down, but he "looks great," now.
McClure is at 200 pounds, he's a focused kid and the injury doesn't bother him psychologically, so once it heals, he'll be ready to go, but he's just not there. The musculature around the knee and overall conditioning are superb, but there comes a point where it's just biology. He needs time to heal a very traumatic injury. His body has completely changed, he's ripped, and all of this without one leg, basically.
McClure has maintained a very positive attitude. At this point, it's just a matter of time and letting the actual constituent parts heal. Don't count on him practicing during fall camp, but once the healing is done, he'll be ready to go very quickly.
