Molitor retains IBF super bantamweight title
RAMA, ONTARIO (TICKER) —Steve Molitor’s latest victory was unanimous in more ways than one.
Molitor remained perfect as a professional Saturday, scoring a unanimous-decision victory over Ricardo Castillo at Casino Rama to retain his IBF super bantamweight title.
The 27-year-old Molitor (26-0, 10 KOs) dominated the majority of the fight, earning identical scores of 118-109 from all three judges. The native of Sarnia, Ontario even battled through some adversity, as he sustained a cut over his left eye in the fourth round thanks to some good right hands from the Mexican challenger.
“It was the first time I’ve been cut in a fight,” the southpaw said. “I just had to be more precise in there.”
After being cut, Molitor kept to the outside of Castillo (33-5) and landed many significant blows en route to victory.
For the 28-year-old Castillo, who is the brother of lightweight Jose Luis Castillo, it was the third loss in his last four bouts.
