Representatives of ProElite, Inc. on Thursday confirmed that the company has signed Kevin Ferguson (commonly known as Kimbo Slice) to a long-term contract. Exact details as to the length and terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The signing of Kimbo follows the cancellation of a scheduled bout with David “Tank” Abbott that was supposed to occur on Oct. 18 under the Cage Fury Fighting Championships banner.
Not only that bout; the entire event was cancelled by CFFC president Felix Martinez, who stated, “I could not overcome the loss of a major investor for (the) show who decided to pull out at the last moment.”
Though ProElite representatives would not comment, sources close to the situation indicate that Tank has also signed with the promotion and that the two will fight at ProElite’s Nov. 10 EliteXC event in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The signing of Kimbo follows the news that ProElite has also signed a contract extension, which adds two years to the current deal of Cesar Gracie fighter Nick Diaz, who is also expected to fight on the Nov. 10 event.
