Clinton applauded predicting Pacquiao boxing win

  • Print

MANILA, Philippines (AP)—U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton drew loud applause at a town hall meeting with students Friday in the Philippines by giving the right answer to the most pressing question: Is Manny Pacquiao going to win this weekend?

The most popular Filipino will be back in the boxing ring in Las Vegas on Saturday to take on Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico in a 145-pound (66-kilogram) fight that will be closely watched back home.

“Of course the Pacman’s going to win. I mean, is there any doubt?” Clinton said at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, where she entertained questions during the nationally televised forum with hundreds of students.

“Pacman” is Pacquiao’s nickname.

Clinton said she’s aware that boxing and basketball are “pretty big” in the Philippines. Every time Pacquiao steps into the ring, he brings his native Philippines to a virtual standstill.

A Chicago native, Clinton also confessed that the Chicago Bulls were her favorites—until she moved to New York and started backing the Knicks, something she said was “kind of discouraging.”

“Now the Knicks are trying maybe to get LeBron James, now that would make it very exciting in New York. So I will watch that. I am not sure exactly what will happen,” Clinton said.

Alot of you clowns are making this match-up between the fighters about race. i thought we were talking about boxing, not who the better race is. the last time i checked, it takes a punch to ko your opponent! who ever wins the fight will win with boxing skills, even if it is a cat and mouse type fight. the objective is to hit, and not be hit. that's what boxing is.

For all you Gayweather fans, answer this. Gayweather wants Manny to say he wants to fight him and so he will fight him but Pacman's trainer already said they want Gayweather. . Gayweather said that JMM called him out thats y he fought him so then how come when Mosley calls him out, NOTHING. Dont care about the past, this is the present. If u think ur the best then fight the best. If the fight wont happen it will be because of FMJ. He will make crazy demands so the fight wont happen. I bet Gayweather was @#$%ing his pants when Pac TKO'd Cotto. Someone Floyd dodged too.

Floyd is a boring ass fighter, all he does is run around the ring. He barely got by Oscar on points and Pacman destroyed Oscar. When we pay 50 bucks we wanna see guys fight not dance. That is y the only fight I ever bought on PPV with FMJ is the one with Oscar. I really want this fight to happen but I think it wont because Gayweather knows that Pacman is a real threat to give him his first loss or even a TKO. If FMJ has any real balls he will take the fight 50/50 and let the best man win.

Roach and Manny Pacquaio are pairs and fair whoever want and willing to fight them . Mayweather encountered with Juan Manuel Marquez was a one-sided bout.. M Jr. took advantage of his weight and height when he fought Marquez in the ring. Their is no honor/prestige at stake but money , money , and money.! I dare Floyd Mayweather Jr. to face and fight Manny Pacman Pacquiao on even term and see who is the greatess between them.

I'm sure Mayweather will be dancing all night to avoid getting beaten if he faces Pacman on the ring. Better give him his ballet dancing shoes instead of boxing gloves....hahahahahahahaha!

Once again I will say this styles make fights . Mayweather has the defense and the hand speed to confuse Manny. Mayweather realizes that he cannot win a slug fest with Manny so he will stick and move and try not to get caught. Remember Mayweather has a few knock outs to his credit and speed is power, the punch you don't see is the one that hurts you. I think both fighters will have to be on their A game to win.
Each fighter is great and a first ballot Hall of Famer, but I think the only chance a fighter has against Manny is his defense. I find it still puzzling and unbelievable that Manny has incresed his power as he has moved up in weight and how these bigger stronger fighters cannot hurt him. I think Manny deserves his respect for the dominating performancea aginst the greats he has beaten into submission but Mayweather is on a different plateau than those fighters and if Freddie Roach believes his fighter can do the same against Mayweather look for Manny to have a long night.

Mayweather comes from a great line of fighters although very disfunctional, Floyd Sr. and Roger are as great as Freddie Roach and if the two can work together for Mayweather Jr.'s greatest challenge this would give MAyweather an advantage that the other fighters Manny has destroyed recently a corner that knows how to adjust during the fight.
Mayweather by dominating decision! Then finally Mayweather will get some respect from the Manny fans, me I am personally a fan of boxing who respects the sport and the warriors in it. I admire both fighters and think they are both great, this is just my analytical nonbiased opinion.

Mayweather is undefeated in as many fights. In fact no one has even come close to winning against him. Pac-Man is most definately a good, great fighter. He really shines when his opponent are a lot slower then he is so his in and out tactic along with the speed overwhelms his opponents. Mayweather still have the reflexes, power and speed along with foot speed and counterpunching ability to make the Pac-Man stand still and fight in the center of the ring. Boring fight maybe but Mayweather will dominate

i'd rather watch filipino vs mexican fight than to watch pretty boring mayweather vs manny pacman paquiao fight like a cat and mouse, it will not satisfy the fans who pays expensive tickets just to sleep and wake up after the 12 round.......GO MANNY!

Yes. Mayweather is the great? undefeated... that's noted... but..he's boring... he fights without class... the art of boxing is not epitomized by mayweather. he just want to jab then run..jab then run... pretty boring to watch. The greatest fighters have experienced losses and that's what made them great.
Mayweather, naturally born brawler, he's strong.. no one can match that... Pacquiao- Mayweather bout? If Mayweather wins.. nothing's new... not exciting at all... Pacquiao wins? That's something people will truly be happy about... the guy with a pure heart wins....in or out of the ring....

Me too is a Pilipino, however, i admit that i maybe more happy if Pacman have beaten his last three opponents (Dela Hoya, Hatton and Cotto) in their own division weight. That will install him maybe forever as the greatest boxer of all times. In the mean time, I doubt his greatness as a boxer. Thank you.

just a few questions guys, yeah manny is a good fighter i take nothing from him but great? not yet.... ask for floyd, he is a great fighter.... now if you dislike him because of his arrogance please dont take anything away from his boxing abilities... floyd is blessed and possesses great work ethics along with is talent.... now back to my question, when floyd mayweather was on top of the boxing game where was manny? did half of you pacman bandwagon riders even herd of him 3 to 4 years ago? think hard. as far as i consider it mayweather is still the champ, he retired the champ and we've all herd, " to be the champ you have to beat the champ". it will b a great fight but mayweather is too experienced and too much of a great fighter....

I'm a filipino, but when it comes to a matter of pointing out views I would be bias. Listen both fighters pacman and mayweather would asurely put out their skills on training camp days. Those who will be extremely well trained physically and mentally would be on the plus factor. trainer wise I still believe Freddie Roach is one of the greatest. listening and applying the strengths and weakness of individual opponents and applying at actual event is also a plus factor.... but wait heres the senario, the fighter that comes out at the dug out and whose focus, confidence, and the heart of a lion will prevail... so it's a 50-50 on both sides. the wits and superve defensive agillity of mayweater over the speed and courage of pacman. power wise i give an advantage over pacman 6-4
