Pacquiao-Cotto does 1.25 million pay-per-view

  • Print

LAS VEGAS (AP)—Manny Pacquiao is a box office hit, selling 1.25 million pay-per-views for his fight with Miguel Cotto in a performance that could set up the richest fight ever against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The fight not only made the top 10 of best-selling pay-per-view boxing events, but beat the 1.05 million figure notched by Mayweather for his September comeback fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.

HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said Friday the fight grossed $70 million, with 650,000 buys coming from cable television homes and 600,000 from satellite television viewers. It was helped by a record 110,000 buys from Puerto Rico, Cotto’s home.

The biggest PPV fight was in 2007—Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya, which was sold to 2.4 million homes.

All you Haters wish PAC could beat Mayweather! Mayweather is not going to starve himself like all the other fighters Roach force to do. Pac beat all those starving artists!! HA! HA! He will not catch Mayweather at a catch weight! Then he will get beat down like marquez!! I hope PAC can sing because he will need that second job! HA! HA!

I think Pacquiao should bring back his old " The Destroyer" name just for this fight coz I know he will totally destroy Gayweather.

Mayweather should adapt Pacman's way of training. He gets hit with bamboo sticks to toughen his muscles.Coach Freddie Roach was very much against it but after seeing Pacman walk through Cotto's hard punches,he stated "I guess that works!".Maybe Pacman watched Jean Claude Van Damme's BLOODSPORT!

    Summary:

Mayweather goes distance with de la Hoya in controversial decision.
Mayweather TKOs Ricky Hatton but it takes him 10 rounds.

PACMAN TKOs de la Hoya in 7 rounds (would have knocked him out if de la Hoya came out to fight)
PACMAN KOs Hatton with 1 punch in round 2.
PACMAN purposely lets Cotto punch him in abdomen as hard as he can to show he can take it (Mayweather cannot punch as hard as Cotto)

Zab Judah essentially knocks down Mayweather.
PACMAN has more punching power thatn Judah.

And for the Mexicans who can't accept defeat - which fight did PACMAN lose, the one where Marquez got knocked on his behind 3 times in 1 round, or the 1 where he got knocked on his back in the middle of the fight???

    Fight prediction:

Mayweather will not be allowed to balloon up to 160 pounds. He is forced to stay at 140 or 147.
Mayweather admires PACMAN at the touch of gloves and says:
"How did you get that beautiful trim body? Through steroids? My dad and I wanna be like you."
Mayweather runs around the ring - throws counterpunches.
    Manny walks through counterpunches.
Mayweather runs around the ring and says "I'm undefeated - I'm the greatest!"
Then the moment where words stop and actions speak...
PACMAN lands a knockout blow to Mayweather.

PACMAN win by KNOCKOUT over Mayweather. Be there...

Can't wait till they get the schedule for the fight between PacMan and Money. Dan Rafael said that it might happen May 01, 2010.

I think Manny should concentrate in his boxing and forget about singing, acting and even dirty politics. As for Floyd, he needs to join the "Dancing with the stars" again or the fake "Wrestlemania".

The Pacman did lose some fight but okay, that does not change a thing....All the great fighters lose fights and some bounce right back. Some are not the same, but for Pacquaio he came back with more determination. He lost some fights, but wow that was so long ago before he was on fire. People don't know Pacquaio turned pro at the age of 16 so he has more fights than other boxers his age, so with more fights he has a good chance of losing some fights.....Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Duran and Tyson lost fights too but they still turned out great......Pacquaio was pro while Mayweather was fighting amateurs, yeah I know Amateur and pros are different levels, just like SIXTEEN years old and THIRTY years old.......Another thing too, Pacquaio do not duck fights he chases them that's why he's a SEVEN TIME WORLD CHAMP IN 7 DIVISIONS!!!!

You are right Michael! Mayweather is fast and has very good defense. He's also undefeated unlike Manny Pacquiao..... But I think PacMan is faster than Floyd and will give him a good fight unlike his previous fights. If Floyd stay undefeated in 55 fights then he's better than PacMan. Yeah Floyd will be circling around the ring like a hoolahoop to avoid confrontation with PacMan and he is very good with that, he has proven it with all his fights. Floyd is just a plane boxer and PacMan is a Fighter that everytime he fights, the crowd is so excited about it. By the way, Cotto did hurt PacMan in some ways but after the fight the guy still manage to sing 8 songs..... What a entertainer.

Have read the latest news from Lole that the city of Las Vegas is planning to build a stadium exclusively for the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather match to keep the fight on the strip! It is to generate employment and taxes and other income from fans and visitors who will visit the city to watch the bout! They know it will be good business, good for the city, but they have lots of competitors! However, I prefer that it be staged in the Philippines .......The Thrilla in Manila Part-2! Go PACMAN!

Any country can stage a big time match! It's a two-way traffic...money out and more money in! Your casinos in Las Vegas or any place in the USA where huge fights are held will not fund a match when they expect to lose a large amount of money! The casino officials and tax paying residents will not like it! ....It is BUSINESS...you invest and expect a high return for it! If one casino in Las Vegas can stage a Manny/Floyd fight, why can't a country with 90 million people! Come over if you would like to know what our country is like and read more about the Philippines, not only the bad but the good news too!

Apology accepted, my pride is not hurt...but, you hurt my feelings (give me an internet hug) and we can be friends. Just like everyone who lives here...people stay in this country for the freedom and opportunity, right? Even, if your 4th or 5th generation as far as living here?...you can go far back enough and see that our ancestors are not from here. It just bothers me sometimes when people talk as if one race has a higher claim of being here when they are not Native American Indians. Believe it, or not...there are multi-millionaires in the Philippines too (U.S. Dollars)! PacMan himself, can fund the fight on Philippines soil. As far as the government...if you watched the last four fights that Pac had; you would've noticed that a lot of the politicians were at ringside. With that said, he is heavily backed and supported by the government. As for when Marcos was in power...there's no hiding the fact that he was corrupt...however, as intelligent as you are...you can identify corrupt governments all around the world, right? I took your initial statement wrong. My apologies as well. Hopefully, I answered all your questions?
