This is what The Super Six World Boxing Classic is all about. Forcing elite fighters to battle each other in a weight class where there seemed to be zero direction. American Andre Ward had been unexposed and held back to certain extent but on Saturday night with his win over one of the tournament's favorites, Mikkel Kessler, he showed that he may be able to fill the huge gap left by a seeming lack of great U.S. boxing prospects.

Monte Poole from The Modesto Bee says Ward is beyond perfect for the role of American boxing hero:

Ward is a man of virtue and good nature - but a cobra in the ring. Moreover, he is the kind of flag-carrier boxing today needs - not as abrasive as Bernard Hopkins, not as brazenly vain as Floyd Mayweather, not as earnestly glib as Oscar De La Hoya and certainly not as menacing as Mike Tyson.

Ward, now the WBA super middleweight champ, dominated Kessler from the get-go. He was too fast and crafty for the Danish veteran. Surviving the rough streets of Oakland, Ward is deeply spiritual:

Mostly, though, Ward fights for his faith, as indicated by his nickname "S. O. G.," son of God, and the robe he wore entering the ring, white with the words "Jesus Christ is King" inscribed in red on the back.

"I feel like I'm here to make my mark, to use the stage as a platform to glorify Him," Ward said. "Nothing is impossible with God on your side. Nothing."

Ward (21-0, 13 KOs) will fight Jermain Taylor next in The Super Six. Promoter Dan Goosen said it could Oakland again in March.

Ward gets a "pass" into the semis with a easy victory over Taylor next. Kessler in in tough with Froch. Froch has the toughset road with hie next 2 fights. I see Abraham winning it all unless the Americans judges fix it so Ward wins. Ther is home cooking on both sides of the Atlantic. Mangler Out

Abraham will win the whole thing. He's just lucky that Joe Calzaghe is not here!

Too bad Calzaghe isn't in this tournament, I would've loved to see King Arthur land a clean 1-punch KO that we know he's capable of landing!!

Calzaghe was scared of Chad Dawson for sure. I don't even think Calzaghe could survive the super six. Taylor has a chance to beat Ward.

Chad Dawson is a lot like Tommy the Hit man Glass Jaw Hearns. Pacman at 147lbs would probaly knock out Dawson at light heavyweight or cruiserweight. Joe Calzache would win the super six hands down.

Since when did Tommy Hearns or Chad Dawson ever display a glass jaw? What an idiotic statement! Highly doubt any of these guys fear Calzaghe either.

When did Tommy hearns display a Glass Jaw? Did you ever see him fight Sugar ray leonard for the first time, How about when he fought Iran Barkley? How about when he got hit by Marvelous marvin Hagler? #9, Do you even watch Boxing? You must be a Prince Nassim fan or a Michael Olajede fan.

If Calzaghe would've fought those fighters you listed, Sugar Ray Leonard, Iran Barkley, Marvin Haggler, he would've brought back Roberto Duran's "No Mas". ANYONE who would've fought those listed fighters would've had a hell of a time in that fight. By claiming that "pacman would probably put a beating on Chad Dawson" you, andreacemarshall, are telling the world that YOU DON'T watch boxing. Get real. I welcome LOGICAL debate; where is the logic in your pacman statement?

Just because I believe that Joe Calzaghe can beat Chad Dawson and I tell you the reason why, you don't have to get all bent out of shaep. I mean it's not my fault that YOU look like LIVINGSTONE BRAMBLE! As you can tell no I don't watch boxing right? Are you TOO TALL JONES?

No, andreacemarshall, you didn't tell me the reason why Calzaghe would beat Dawson, you just said that Dawson had a "glass chin". You gave no other explanation, if you would've said "he would use his volume punching to back him up, etc. then you would've made a case for your ridiculous statements. By you resorting to claiming that I look like Livingstone Bramble, that tells me that your small little brain ran out of ways to justify your previous statements, which in turn is a compliment to me for helping you shoot blanks. Thanks Andreacemarshall!

Meanwhile Calzaghe gets put on his azz by a pair of 40 year olds in his last two fights, both of whom haven't been knocking anyone down in quite some time prior to Calzaghe. His biggest win of his professional career prior to that was against a guy who just lost to an inexperienced Andre Ward. And this "boxing expert" claims Hearns had a glass chin because he got KO'd by a bigger, stronger, & hall of famer, Marvin Hagler. At least Hearns fought the best out there against guys still in their PRIME.

Did Calzaghe ever lose? What was his knockout ratio? Who has Dawson fought for his claim to fame? You guys must have shared a jail cell with Tony Ayala!

Calazaghe will beat Dawson, because he has better offense and defense, Calzaghe throws more punches, Dawson would never get a decision over Calzaghe just because of the number of punches Calzaghe throws per round, Calzaghe is more experienced, Calzaghe has never came close to losing and that's why he has never lost, and compare Calzaghe knockout percentage to not only Dawson, but any fighter out there! Need I say ANYMORE REASONS? You guys need to put down your ROCKY BALBOA magazines and get a clue.

FACT: Dawson issued a press release challenging Calzaghe and offering to fight him on his home turf in Wales. Dawson stated "I'm ready to give Joe the opportunity to draw the curtain on his great career in front of his family and friends and 70,000 fans," and "It's the best fight in the light heavyweight division between two undefeated champions." Calzaghe instead retired.

Dawson was looking to get a good pay day against Calazaghe Please! Bernard Hopkins, Kelly Pavlik, Antonio Tarver, and Roy Joynes jr. would right now probaly beat Chad Dawson. You ask me for my reason that Calazaghe would beat Dawson and I gave them to you. Now answer my question did Joe Calzaghe ever lose? and what was his knockout ratio? Do you think Dawson could get a decision over Calzaghe? Dawson would have to knockout Calzaghe to win the fight and nobody has ever come close to doing that! Who besides Glen the OVER THE HILL Johnson has Chad Dawson fought?

So, I guess Bad Chad's wins over Tarver, Johnson, and oh, I don't know, ADAMEK don't mean he's good enough to beat Calzaghe? Really? So, there's no way Dawson would win without a knock out? The problem with your theories is that your bias mentality prevents you from making a realistic observation. You have so little faith in Chad's abilities, almost like if he rejected giving you an autograph. You're way to blinded by Calzaghe's "padded" record to actually open your eyes and look at their individual skills and how they attack their opponents. I don't think Bad Chad is an exciting fighter, but that's because he has way too much talent to really get hit and forced to change his style. Calzaghe has always been on the outside looking in, wishing he could form a legacy, and when the legends he revered got old enough, and posed fewer risks, he decided to fight them. Yea, you keep rooting for that guy! He's definitely going down as the best to have fought in his division!

Dawson beat Tarver & Johnson, two guys who did what Calzaghe couldn't do......KO RJJ. He also beat a guy who pretty much dominated the cruiserweight division & currently fighting heavyweights in Adamek. Yet your simple mind thinks he has no chance vs Calzaghe......a guy who he actually had to issue a press release to announce to the world that he would fight anytime, anywhere. Yeah, andreacemarshall, you can put down your crack pipe now.

Now compare that to Dawson and while your at it look at the guys that Calzaghe fought and the no names that Dawson fought!

That's easy.........Calzaghe never lost. Neither did Chad Dawson. Chavez Jr is also undefeated. What's your point. Oh forgot, you have none.
Calzaghe had a good knock out ratio........against bums. Where was that ratio when he fought Roy Jones Jr? Surely the great Calzaghe & his KO ratio could knock out an older Roy Jones Jr who was already KO'd & softened up for Joe by Tarver & Johnson? Oh wait, that's right, he couldn't.
