He's a rabbi-in-training, so Yuri Foreman made for a nice storyline coming into his junior middleweight title shot against Daniel Santos. Most critics concentrated on the fact that Foreman, 29, only had eight knockouts in 27 fights. No punching power, meant no real threat to the veteran Santos. Foreman showed he could be a rough, tough customer. He often charged with his head which resulted in several headbutts and was credited with a knockdown in the second when he slugged Santos in the back of the head. He got a more legitimate knockdown in the 12th to seal the deal.
Foreman became the first Orthodox Jewish boxing world champ in more than 70 years. Jackie "Kid" Berg, a junior welterweight from London, was the last, in 1932.
With a better connect rate throughout, it was more than enough for Foreman to get his first world title via unanimous decision 116-110, 117-109 and 117-109.
Foreman was the slicker fighter throughout. His jab, fighting out of a southpaw stance, puffed up Santos below his right eye. Santos eventually suffered a cut on the edge of the eye in the eleventh round.
Foreman suffered a cut over left eye early in the fight but his corner did a nice job of managing the wound.
The Puerto Rican looked sluggish at times. Maybe it was the big weight gain after Friday's weigh-in. Foreman was 161 pounds tonight, while Santos was 173. Foreman pointed out during the postfight press conference that he noticed how big Santos looked at the start of the figt.
Foreman outlanded Santos 146-105 and connected at higher percentage (29-24).
Foreman's story can be best described as the American dream. Born into poverty in Belarus, he moved to Israel as a child and then New York as a 19-year-old. Five years ago, he began studying to be a rabbi on the advice of his girlfriend, who is also a professional boxer and model.

#9 - I appreciate your enthusiasm. You have every right to be excited, but understand that Sugar Ray Robinson fought well over 200 times. He went 199 fights before his 1st loss. Back then there were far less weight classes, so winning in different ones meant more. 7 weight classes could not have even happened for Robinson. It would've actually taken him past heavyweight. Not trying to rain on your picnick, but some statements have to be thought out a little better. Your talking about peoples hero's just like Manny's your hero.

"Probably set up fight just to promote the jews as the aryan race over the gentiles." See comment #10 by Gerardo. Nothing to add to that.
"Rather then engineer his rise to a fake title, why doen't he fight cotto, roy jones jr, etc." umm, how is this a fake title? It's the WBA World Light MIddleweight Title. Santos beat Antonio Margarito, and we saw what Margarito did to Cotto. Of course Margarito's win was tainted by the hand wraps issue, but he still was the first guy to knock out Cotto. And at the time it was impressive.
As far as Foreman fighting a Cotto or Roy Jones Jr, Cotto is currently a welterweight, weighing in at 145 lbs versus Pacquiao. Foreman weighed in at 154 at the weigh in against Santos and even more on fight day. He is a Light MIddleweight. So Cotto really isn't in Foreman's weight class at the moment. RJJ is a Light Heavyweight, weighing in at 172 lbs in his last fight. So RJJ is about 20 pounds heavier than Foreman, even farther away from his weight than Cotto. I don't know how you can say something as idiotic as that, but I can believe it because there are a lot of stupid and ignorant people in this world, and you are clearly one of them. I just feel sorry for you. It shows your spiteful jealously of those different than you.
"He will never do that because then he will lose to the gentile that can't be baught and so will be a blow to the jewish race based cult Zionism movement." First of all, it's "bought", not "baught". How do you know he will never do that? This guy just became a world champion. We have no idea who he will fight next. He will "lose to the gentile that can't be bought" and that will be a blow to the jewish race based on a cult zionism movement?
Dude you really have some built up hate in your heart. You are painting a picture that has nothing to do with individual people. There are plenty of jews that aren't zionists. And for those who are, your characterization of them cats them in a dark light for reasons of your own jealously. And if one day Yuri loses to a great fighter and in the process has a good account of himself, it won't at all be a blow to the jewish race. It won't be a blow to the jewish race because Yuri has already achieved something that will make jews, christians, and anyone who appreciates objective skill proud no matter what happens from here on out. Yuri has shown tremendous courage in this fight and throughout his entire career remaining undefeated in such a dangerous sport like boxing.
#5, Grow up and next time swallow your hate and just say. "Great job Yuri in becoming a world champion." Not great job jew or great job black or great job arab or great job christian. But Great job Yuri. You are the champion and you have achieved something very special in the ring on this night. Hope to see you fight again and defend your world championship. I'd like to see Julio Cesar Chavez Jr challenge Yuri for the title. That would be a great fight!
