His rise from 130 pounds to take out elite fighters at 140 and 147 is amazing. Not only did Manny Pacquiao beat Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya, he destroyed them and may have sent both to the old folks home. Those conquests were dynamite,, but he does have his limits. Freddie Roach told the ESPNRadio1100/Yahoo! Sports postfight show that he'd like to see Pacman fight Shane Mosley or Miguel Cotto but that they'd have to come down a few pounds. So, basically, Manny is a little too small to fight legitimate welterweights. Pacquiao can only reach so high at barely 5-foot-6.

Meanwhile our buddy MDS at AOL's Fanhouse has lost his mind:

Pacquiao would beat any boxer at any weight class under 160. Yes, you read that right: Pacquiao would have to move all the way up to middleweight before I'd bet against him.

How many fighters under 160 pounds can you name to bet on against Pacman?

I'll go with:

1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (5-foot-8, 147 pounds)

2. Paul Williams (6-3, 154)

3. Shane Mosley (5-9, 147)

4. Miguel Cotto (5-8, 147)

5. Antonio Margarito (6-0, 147)

The win over Hatton is impressive but let's keep in mind "The Hitman" had two quality wins in his career. I'm thinking MDS is employing an ESPN "First Take" mentality here, making outlandish statements to simply stir up an argument.

hatton is a chump. he came to the u.s and got embarrassed twice. pacman is tough, i'd love to see him fight pbf, that would be a good one. i dont know about him just clearing out every boxer up to 160 though.

WTF.. are u trying to kill Pacquiao? If I were Manny, I'll have to retire now before people gets crazier and ruin his health.

I think Williams and Cotto would beat Pacquiao, the other three not so much. I think Pac Man's speed would allow him to outhustle Mosely enroute to a comfortable decision win. Same with Mayweather. Margarito would be an interesting challenge but afer seeing how Mosely handled him, I think Pacquiao would be able to do much of the same.

It seems as though Manny's punching power grows along with each rise in weight class. At 5' 6", I can't see him at 160lbs, but I can't see anyone beathing him at 154 and under. When Manny moves up a weight class, it seems that Freddy Roach has the proper training techniques to put the weight on Manny, but more importantly, put that weight in Manny's power punches! I truly feel that Manny will beat Mayweather Jr by easy decision or maybe even a late round knockout.

I called the Pacman/Hatton fight totally wrong, i didn't realise Hatton didn't know how to throw a jab. I'm with Nut on the PBF vs Pac, i think PBF would win on points.

I think the best posible fight would be marquez . It would be nice to see the un finish bussiness between the two. Mayweather would be a boring fight he will be running just like a marathon runner inside the ring, it's going to be boring very boring fight to see. Mayweather picks his fight t see if he can win them. For me this is not a champions true self if they pick there fights. He is very loud and full of him self if he is truely one of the puond for pound king he would have prove it with the fighters who challenge him like margarito, cotto , mosley.

I agree with your top 5 with the exception of antonio and not quite sure for cotto but may might be a little too much for pac despite what all the haters think. keep sleepin on floyd.even if he beat pac,you would find another stupid excuse to dog him.

Rico I dont want to get into the Country stuff but America has plenty of top fighters let me name you some... Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley, Chad Dawson, Paul Williams, Bernard Hopkins, Shane Mosley, Vernon Forrest, Kelly Pavlik, and etc etc.. The MMA statement is way off base. Yes boxing best is not American.. Well MMA's best isnt American either. I dont even think Silva or Fedor can speak English..LOL..
Well on the blog topic.. The only guys on the list that are to big for manny is Williams and Margarito.. I seen Floyd and 5'8" is only in his dreams he has always been seen as a small Welterweight. Even tho his last fights have been at 147 and Shane maybe big but he struggled at 154. Thats were his losses came aside from Cotto. Cotto just moved from 140 in the last 2 yrs. He can compete against any of the guys except Williams. Even Margarito because he is so slow and Manny will not get tired like Cotto. NOw I think he can beat Floyd and Cotto because Cotto will take shots. I think manny has power to Hurt and damage him. Floyd will try to pot shot him but Manny will always work and Work will garnish points. Ask anybody who has fought Joe Calzage. The only person who really I will see as trouble is Shane because of his punching power and ability to get stronger as the fight goes deep into the championship rounds.

NOt saying Floyd, Cotto, or Shane can't beat him or even he will beat them but to make the assestment that they will dominate Pac is crazy. It will be a fight that could go either way.
Cofield doesnt know anything about Boxing. He is an MMA guy I dont know why he still posts Boxing blogs anyway. Pac is the best right now hands down. He ahs the best trainer in the game and focused on training he does his work.

oh Rico....Norman R pretty much said what i was going to...except for informing you that your a f**king idiot....Paul Williams might very well be the most dangerous boxer in the game....His lack of power maybe his downfall but there isnt really a line forming to fight him....Too dangerous...Freakish height and reach and the ability to make numerous weights....a work rate that might out due Calzaghe's only with more power and better angles....over 80 inches of wingspan...and American blood running through those veins to boot!!! but your right, pumpkin, Americans are terrible in boxing now....its people like you that amaze me....its one thing to root for your countrymen (hatton, Pacman, etc) but its another thing to make it a racial issue and put another one down....

normie.. ugh.. reading your post dropped my IQ.. There is no dominant American HW, I will grant you that, but in most every other division there Americans, Europeans, and Asians in the top 10. Boxing has become global. Thus more talent. Cuba and Russia coming in. It is good for boxing. Obviously you are not American. Did you always want to see Americans ruling all the weight divisions?? I like seeing some kid from Russia fighting some guy from Cuba or whatever. It is interesting to see, and the evolution of boxing.

Nutcracker WHAT THE HELL are you talking about. A guy earlier said no americans were great boxers. In which I said SURE IT IS. Let me name a few. LOL.. Its obivious your IQ was already low.. dummy.. I am american and there are plenty great american fighters. Also As a true fan of the sport I know there has been great champions from many countries Before you and I were probably even born. Cuba has had some of the best ameatur boxers in the world for decades. Germany has had good boxers before ever heard of Max Schmeling ? I have no issue with that. I guy made a lame duck statement about all good american fighters going to MMA cuz they couldnt hack it at boxing and thats just a damn lie. Nutcracker try reading the entire comment before you make a lame duck response to something. Nuttie..LOL Its pretty clear your just a fair weather fan or maybe not but Im a hard core fan. I have no issue with Pac or Vatali being champions. Get real and get a life.. LEARN TO READ AND COMPREHEND YOUR IQ MAY GO UP...LOL

And Nutcracker for your comment about Manny "FEW" good wins. Look I like Floyd jr. BUt his resume cant be held close to over the last couple of yrs. Try Marquez twice, AMB Twice, Morales 3 times, and Larios. These are great fighters. If we dont include hatton and ODH whom both of them fought all we got is Chico Corrales after prison and Castillo twice. The first one with Louis some say he even lost. I think he won but still Thats 3 fights to Manny's 8. Just saying be easy with your assestment. Manny stop lounging with he straight left in 2004. This isnt the same fighter dude. This guy did things better in this fight than he did with ODH. Like the the faint and lead Right hook which he dropped Hatton with twice. He will by far the the best Opponent of Floyds Career. No Doubt about it. IF Floyd beats Marquez..

norman.....while i agree with alot of your assessment i do have couple things to say....first, your definitely right when you say manny is a completely different fighter than he was a few years back...however, if you watch the DLH fight again you it will be abundantly clear that Pacman threw numerous straight rights and lefts and he was definitely lunging on most of those...i think lampley or merchant even said something to the effect of "death by a thousand straight rights/lefts".....also, it was very impressive to see manny faint and throw that lead right hook AND slip hattons left all at the same time!!....the super slow mo showed that really well...that being said, hatton was inviting opponents to do that for most of his career.....hes always been open to counter hooks....both pacman's and PBF's.....in the Mayweather fight PBF hit him with it all night.....combine that with him being significantly slower than both of them and results speak for themselves....and though his resume' still is nothing compared to Manny's i think you have to include his win over Zab on that list amongst the others you mentioned...good stuff though....Money will walk through Marquez (IMO)....and like ive said before ill flip a coin as to who i would root for in a Pacman/PBF fight....ive taken pride in being a filipino but ive always been a big Money Mayweather fan....

Nut, I think without a doubt ... Manny could retire tomorrow ... and he'd definitely be considered a "great" fighter. Hell, IMO, he was already a "great" fighter (based solely on his past accomplishments at the lighter weight classes) prior to beating Diaz DLH & Ricky.

Manny is not a welterweight, he's too small for all these guys ... but ... I certainly think Cotto static style and relatively weak chin make him vulnerable to Manny ... Margo flat footwork would have him walking into Manny's punches all night long ... and Floyd would need to be very focused (unlike the Baldomir fight) to contend/win. Williams is far too big, and Shane far too strong (although the Shane that struggled for 12 rounds against Mayorga was questionable, or perhaps just an aberration).

Can these five boxers, namely Mayweather, Mosley, Williams, Cotto and Margarito, fight Manny Pacquiao at
140 lbs. I don't think so. They will all fight at their own weight class.
Pacquiao will KO them all at 140 lbs.
    Who's afraid now?

Why Mayweather retired at 147 lbs? There are no quality opponents there. He is afriad to go up ar 154lbs. There are Vernon Forrest, Cory Spinks, Sergio Mora, Paul Williams
Why Mosley is fighting at 147? He is a very big man and he can easily go up at 160 with his steriods. He is afriad of Pavlik, Arthur Abraham, and Hopkins!
Cotto and Margarito can go up at 154 pound. There are W illiams, Vernon Forrest, Cory Spinks etc.
They are afraid against oppositions. That's not a great boxer!
Pacquiao went up from 106 lbs. up to 147 lbs. and demolished everyone that came his way. He defeated five future hall of famers (Morales, Barrera, Marquez, DL Hoya and Hattom).
