"Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr., the former pound-for-pound king, is returning to the ring this summer. Golden Boy Promotions announced an 11 a.m. PT press conference where a Mayweather fight against Juan Manuel Marquez will be introduced for July 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Marquez, ranked No. 2 in the latest Yahoo! Sports Top 10 boxing poll, is currently the WBA and WBO lightweight champ. He'll be jumping nine pounds to a catch weight of 144 pounds to face Mayweather, who will drop down from his fighting weight of 147. Mayweather, 32, last fought in December of 2007 when he defeated Ricky Hatton via 10th round TKO. He retired in June of 2008 when terms couldn't be reached on a rematch against Oscar De La Hoya.
The July battle against Marquez potentially sets up a fight against the winner of tonight's Manny Pacquiao-Hatton fight.
Mayweather (39-0, 25 KO's) started his pro career back in 1996 at 130 pounds and held world titles in four different weight classes. The 35-year-old Marquez (50-4, 37 KOs) has been a pro since 1993.

Another thing, a PBF vs Pac fight would be better and far more profitable than a PBF vs Hitman bout. And I know that even though Gayweather wouldn't admit it, he'll be rooting for Pac to win against the Hitman tonight. Don't want to ruin his chances of being in another potential 1,000,000 PPV buy boxing event.

I think Marquez will give Mayweather a better fight than Hatton did.. I am pretty sure!!! JMM vs PBF This will be an excellent exhibition of skills for a real boxing fan!!! The only true disadvantage for Marquez is the weight division, I hope he is able to adjust!!!
Jaymasigan, ohhh, I see what your saying I just don’t comprehend it!!! try again!!!! LOL!!!
