"Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr., the former pound-for-pound king, is returning to the ring this summer. Golden Boy Promotions announced an 11 a.m. PT press conference where a Mayweather fight against Juan Manuel Marquez will be introduced for July 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Marquez, ranked No. 2 in the latest Yahoo! Sports Top 10 boxing poll, is currently the WBA and WBO lightweight champ. He'll be jumping nine pounds to a catch weight of 144 pounds to face Mayweather, who will drop down from his fighting weight of 147. Mayweather, 32, last fought in December of 2007 when he defeated Ricky Hatton via 10th round TKO. He retired in June of 2008 when terms couldn't be reached on a rematch against Oscar De La Hoya.

The July battle against Marquez potentially sets up a fight against the winner of tonight's Manny Pacquiao-Hatton fight.

Mayweather (39-0, 25 KO's) started his pro career back in 1996 at 130 pounds and held world titles in four different weight classes. The 35-year-old Marquez (50-4, 37 KOs) has been a pro since 1993.

its clear for me that this decision so is "unfair and waste of time!!" for PAC's legacy.PACMAN is more deserving person to fight w/ MAYWEATHER than "MARQUEZ"-"who is he"??..ahh #2 P4P so what..??tsss PAC's is much more greater than that Boy..,and PAC's just proved it after he K.O and wins againts MARQUEZ-is that d name..??hehe....why get it straight??!!!we are more excited for the fight of PACQUIAO MAYWEATHER..,fight of the champ!!..,not fight for d champ between the looser sorry 4 d term..y not HATTON MARQUEZ first "The Fight for a 2nd CHANCE" what a great title isnt it??? then after dat.."PACQUIAO MAYWEATHER"whoever gonna wins in both sides... will gonna face each other...for me thats decision is fair enough for PACMAN's side...

Typical Gayweather, using his announcement to grab and steal the headlines. He's definitely going to win against JMM but it's not going to be easy. The latter would definitely give him the fits and I'm even betting that no KOs will occur. And yes it will be boring, but because of JMM I'll still be watching it.
Another thing, a PBF vs Pac fight would be better and far more profitable than a PBF vs Hitman bout. And I know that even though Gayweather wouldn't admit it, he'll be rooting for Pac to win against the Hitman tonight. Don't want to ruin his chances of being in another potential 1,000,000 PPV buy boxing event.

what a "circus" boxing match...!ahhh i knew it...pupose of this fight is just...,it seems they want boxers like MARQUEZ-who is he..??ahh he's the 1 beaten and K.O's by my man PACQUIAO..they want other boxer to be known by the fans and be a "star" so that if MANNY or FLOYD gonna RETIRE...there are boxer that stands the throne of the two of the greatest fighter 4 today PAC&PRETTYBOY ..isn't im righ??and so.. you behind the boxing sports u ol know we are much more excite to watch PACQUIAO MAYWEATHER match..after i think the match between HATTON MARQUEZ 1st...its a more smarter idea..& i think mayweather's retirement after a hatton's fight is just a trick to us..this is what they want to happen..they just want MANNY get more boxer to fight and step down..point is they r afraid to MANNY that they ol now is that MANNY gonna defeat MAYWEATHER...they think that were only filipino....blablabla

To the guy who posted #5 and #7. Dude take a rest, it's not that bad. Don't be offended and stop being too moody, FYI it's a very common practice. LOL! =D

I don’t think we should be counting JMM out so soon!!! Remember JMM has been an active fighter Mayweather is coming out of retirement!!! Tonight we will see who is a tougher opponent for Manny; Hatton or Marquez..
I think Marquez will give Mayweather a better fight than Hatton did.. I am pretty sure!!! JMM vs PBF This will be an excellent exhibition of skills for a real boxing fan!!! The only true disadvantage for Marquez is the weight division, I hope he is able to adjust!!!
Jaymasigan, ohhh, I see what your saying I just don’t comprehend it!!! try again!!!! LOL!!!

Despite his inaction in the ring for a year, I still go with PBF. Both are defensive specialist. I just wonder whos gonna step out theyre comfort zone.

Mayweather Jr. will always just be the FORMER pound-for-pound king!
    Pacquiao stays pound-for-pound champion..
well, Mayweather-Marquez fight would be a must-see match.. fight!!
i bet Jr. will be like his father.. talk and talk.. no proof of profession-over-Manny for almost each round.
