Chuck Liddell said Thursday he still wants to fight in September despite the fact that his planned bout against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 76 fell out on Wednesday.
UFC president Dana White said the long-awaited Liddell-Silva fight would not happen at UFC 76, set for Sept. 22 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., because Silva declined the bout.
White said he was afraid the bout between the two light heavyweight sluggers would never occur.
Liddell said Thursday that he's disappointed but that he avoids reading the Internet, so his hopes weren't up.
"Most of the time, the talk that's on the Internet about a fight really isn't that accurate, so I just stay away from it," Liddell said. "Obviously, that's a fight we would want."
Liddell said he is open to fighting Sept. 22 and then again in November and said he's simply waiting to hear.
Liddell, who lost his UFC light heavyweight title when he was knocked out by Rampage Jackson on May 26, said he'd have no probably getting ready to fight in November if he competed Sept. 22.
"I love to fight, so I'd like to do both if they want me for both," Liddell said. "Bottom line, there aren't any problems for me to be ready for (November) if I have a fight in September, so I'd like to see them do it."
Liddell conceded that his loss to Jackson and Silva’s recent defeats have lessened interest in the fight. Both men are among the game's hardest punchers and the fight would have been a slugfest for as long as it would have lasted.
Silva was knocked out by Mirko Cro Cop in September and then dropped his Pride 205-pound title when he was stopped in the second round by Dan Henderson on Feb. 24 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
But he said the interest in the fight is so great that it would remain viable.
"Of course they would (hurt)," Liddell said. "That's pretty obvious. But it's also pretty obvious that it's a fight that people want to see. I hope there's a way we can get it done. I am just waiting to hear what's going to happen."

2. Shogun Rua is on the same card they wanted to match Liddell-Silva, and I bet Silva will corner him. Shogun is going to fight Mashida, a fighter who has beat the crap out of Stefan Bonner and punished the lighter BJ Penn and absolutely destroyed Rich Franklin previously. I think Silva is focusing on his team at the moment and timing his next octagon appearance to suit both his wallet, and his fellow chuteboxe warriors.
Neither fighter is scared of anyone, that should be clear.
