UFC champion has a surprising addiction

Growing up in Washington, UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate joined the high school wrestling team and routinely grappled with the boys. But, it wasn’t until she ventured into the world of Mixed Martial Arts that she needed to learn the art of taking a punch. Tate admits she wasn’t great at it initially but now she finds it slightly addicting, if not empowering.

However, taking a punch is just part of the game as most fights don’t end via knockout. In fact, of Tate’s 18 MMA wins, three have been via KO. Despite the exhilaration of ending a bout with a few quick blows, Tate knows that any fighter can land a “lucky punch.” For her, submitting an opponent is an undeniable sign that a fighter has tactically defeated their adversary.

Tate’s next challenge will be July 9th in Las Vegas for UFC 200 against Amanda Nunes. While Tate is a strong favorite, her ability to take a punch may come in handy as Nunes has nine knockouts in 12 career fights.
