Strange magazine cover adds to tough 2015 for world's top golfer Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is the top-ranked golfer on the planet. Now, he’ll try to accomplish something just five others have done: win a career slam in this year’s Masters at Augusta National.

But 2015 hasn’t been all that kind to the defending Open Championship and PGA Champion.

Two weeks ago, he missed the cut at the rain-soaked Honda Classic. It was only his 12th missed cut on the PGA Tour.

Then, the Northern Irishman finished ninth at Doral. But his weekend will be remembered for his 3-iron toss into a lake on the eighth hole.

Not to mention the Donald Trump meet-and-greet.

His biggest head scratcher, though, could be this sneak peak of the April cover of Golf Digest released on Instagram. The Masters preview edition features McIlroy’s face on the statue of David, in a kilt, with a golf bag over his shoulder

It’s almost on par with Tiger Wood’s Vanity Fair cover in early 2010. The risque picture didn’t work out too well for Woods, who didn’t win a tournament that entire year.

Perhaps, Rory will be the “New Model of Greatness” as the cover suggests, but for now, all we can say is…

What?
