Did wardrobe malfunction cost marathoner a world record?

Elite marathoner Eliud Kipchoge failed to break a world record at the Berlin Marathon possibly due to a bizarre wardrobe malfunction.

At around the 10-mile mark, the insoles on the Kenyan’s custom Nike running shoes starting falling apart. Amazingly, the world-class marathoner shook it off and was still able to win the race with a time of 2:04:00, a mere 63 seconds shy of a world record.

Kipchoge’s pace of around 4 minutes and 40 seconds was especially incredible with the insoles peeking out the back of his sneakers.

The Nike athlete was a gracious winner, attributing the shoe difficulties to a simple case of “bad luck.”
