The most valuable sports franchises in the world

There is a lot of money in professional sports, no doubt about it. But have you ever wondered just how much there is at the top? So have we, and so has Forbes Magazine, which published its annual list of the most valuable franchises on Wednesday.

While the NFL appears to be especially lucrative across the board (30 of the NFL's 32 teams occupy spots in the Forbes top 50) it's the other kind of football claiming the top spots.

10. New York Giants
Owners John Mara and Steve Tisch may have to share the proverbial pie, but it's a 'pie' worth 1.55 billion.

9. Washington Redskins
Perhaps some of Daniel Snyder's resistance to changing the team's namecure has to do with the fact that the franchise is currently worth $1.7 billion.

8. New England Patriots
In 1971, Robert Kraft became a season ticket holder of the Patriots. Today, he owns the franchise valued at $1.8 billion.

7. Bayern Munich
Germany is not only home to the 2014 FIFA World Cup trophy, but it's also home to Bayern Munich. The club is worth $1.85 billion.

6. Los Angeles Dodgers
Franchise player Yasiel Puig may be scared of thunderstorms, but it doesn't seem to be hurting the team's $2 billion valuation.

5. Dallas Cowboys
Though he may be polarizing, Jerry Jones owns the most valuable NFL team, worth $2.3 billion.

4. New York Yankees
The Steinbrenners are the proud owners of all things pinstripes. The Yankees are worth $2.5 billion.

3. Manchester United
The Glazer family, who also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, own Man U — valued at $2.81 billion.

2. Barcelona
Barça is the most successful club in Spain, in terms of overall titles won, but it's the second most valuable club in the country, worth $3.2 billion.

1. Real Madrid
The club which employs Cristiano Ronaldo is worth $3.44 billion.
