Sean Doolittle issues rare walk, Rajai Davis makes him pay with walk-off grand slam

The Detroit Tigers may just want to celebrate their 1984 World Series championship every game. Unbelievable things happen at Comerica Park when the likes of Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker are in the house. Such was the case again Monday as the club honored the 30th anniversary of the title team when hosting the Oakland A's. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth while facing A's closer Sean Doolittle, Nick Castellanos and Alex Avila led off the frame with back-to-back singles. Eugenio Suarez followed with a strikeout. Then Doolittle did the near unthinkable: he walked Austin Jackson.

The lefty reliever entered the at-bat against Jackson with a 57:1 K/BB ratio in 2014.

Two pitches later, perhaps rattled a bit, Rajai Davis hit a walk-off grand slam that gave Detroit a dramatic 5-4 victory. The last time there was a Tigers' walk-off grand slam? June 27, 2004, when Carlos Pena hit a tiebreaking shot against Arizona. And the time previous to that? June 21, 1994 when '84 alum Whitaker cleared the bases in game-ending fashion against Cleveland. Then there was this historical footnote.
