The Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball program has a long and storied tradition. LeBron James even has a locker in the team's dressing room. And junior forward LaQuinton Ross put on an impressive performance in the fifth-ranked squad's 76-60 victory over Maryland in Wednesday night's Big Ten-ACC Challenge matchup. But it was fellow junior Sam Thompson's high-flying act against the Terrapins that stole the show.
Thompson finished four alley-oop dunks in the blowout — with each one just as gravity-defying as the slam that preceded it. He finished with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. He was also quick to credit his teammates for the athletic display. "Shannon (Scott) and (Aaron) Craft are so good at forcing steals and getting us out in transition," Thompson said. "They draw so much attention in the open floor that I just do the easy part and I finish. They've always put the ball right on the money. All I have to do is just dunk it home." And dunk it home — four times — is what he did.
Moving to the NBA, the scheduled "home" game for the Minnesota Timberwolves in Mexico City against the San Antonio Spurs had to be postponed due to smoke in the arena caused by an electrical short in a generator powering an escalator. The game will be made up at the Target Center on a date to be determined.
Jingle all the way
Finally, the Phoenix Coyotes have offered up their unique version of "Jingle Bells". Shane Doan, Keith Yandle, Mike Ribeiro, and Radim Vrbata got into the holiday spirit in this video of the timeless Christmas classic.
