Once upon a time, Indiana Pacers small forward Paul George was the toast of the NBA. The 23-year-old was an early MVP candidate as the club got out to a franchise-record 16-1 start. And while the Pacers clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, they limped into the postseason. And after a 107-97 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in Game 5 of their first-round series, a team many thought had a chance to knock the Miami Heat out of the championship perch midway through the season is in danger of being eliminated on May 1st.
The whole thing was too much to take for one Pacers fan, who let George hear it during the closing minute of Monday's first half. After being called for traveling, the two-time All-Star heard it from the frustrated patron.
"Hey George, why don’t you start playing some basketball and stop traveling? I guess you’re ready to go home in the first round,” the heckler, who could be overheard during the NBA TV broadcast, shouted. “You’re ready to go home in the first round against Atlanta? You’re supposed to be an All-Star. Start playing ball and stop traveling.”
The embarrassing moment became a hot topic on Twitter.
Oh man. The NBA TV mics picked up a Pacer fan just blistering Paul George. "You're supposed to be All-Stars...you can't beat Atlanta?"— Chris Mannix (@ChrisMannixSI) April 29, 2014
The guy had a George jersey on too?! It doesn't get much worse. Oh wait …
Moving to hockey, the PIttsburgh Penguins got a hat trick from Evgeni Malkin in Game 6 of their first-round series with the Columbus Blue Jackets — and still nearly lost. Columbus scored three times in a 4:52 span of the third period but Pittsburgh hung for a 4-3 victory to advance.
Finally in golf, whatever happened to Anthony Kim? A member of the victorious U.S Ryder Cup team in 2008 and owner of three PGA Tour victories, the 28-year-old has been MIA for two years.
