Minnesota Wild mascot dresses like Vancouver Green Men

Force and Sully have only been around for four years. But the Vancouver Canucks superfans — aka The Green Men — have achieved a level of notoriety unparalleled in today's NHL. The duo have over 50,000 followers on Twitter and were even warned by the league in 2011 to tone down their act. What exactly do they do? Well, if you're not familiar, here's a quick tutorial on YouTube. The full-body, spandex suit-wearing pair were given the ultimate honor Tuesday night during Vancouver's away game against the Minnesota Wild. That's where Nordy, the Wild mascot, dressed up like our heroes.

According to his bio on the team's official homepage, Nordy is "a WILD (get it?) animal born in the north woods of the Iron Range. While no one truly knew what sort of Wild animal he is, it was clear that Nordy encompassed the true spirit of the Wild. So in 2008, Nordy proudly accepted the offer to become the mascot for the Minnesota Wild."

While he may not be as well-known as The Green Men, Nordy's stunt Tuesday was as a success. Minnesota beat Vancouver 3-2 in a shootout.

Cold blooded

Moving to basketball, the Portland Trail Blazers own an NBA-best record of 22-4 after a thrilling 119-116 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard buried a three-pointer with 0.4 seconds left that proved to be the game-winner. Lillard finished with 36 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds.

Finally, the U.S. will send a pair of openly gay athletes — Billie Jean King and Caitlin Cahow — to Sochi as part of its delegation to the Winter Olympics. Not making the trip: President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Biden or any former U.S. President. The move is seen as a counter to Russia's anti-gay legislation.
