Miguel Cabrera homers into ray tank at Tropicana Field

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera became the first player since Carl Yastrzemski to win the Triple Crown (that's leading the league in home runs, runs batted in and batting average) last season. Cabrera was rewarded for his historic season and also won the American League Most Valuable Player award over Mike Trout. Yaz accomplished the rare feat in 1967 for the Boston Red Sox. Now, on pace to possibly become the first player in MLB history to win consecutive Triple Crowns, Miggie has achieved something only one other player (Luis Gonzalez in 2007) has done: hit a home run into The Rays Touch Tank.

Sure, the deed doesn't quite carry the same significance that winning a Triple Crown does. But it's unique nonetheless. Cabrera turned the trick Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Miggie launched a fourth inning Jeremy Hellickson offering (his 25th long ball of 2013) into the 35-foot, 10,000 gallon tank home to more than 20 cownose rays in an eventual 3-1 Tigers loss to the Rays. The feature opened at Tropicana Field in 2006 behind the right-center field wall. Fans can touch and feed the aquatic wildlife throughout the game. Upon Cabrera's rare splashdown, a Detroit fan reached into the tank to retrieve the souvenir.

Moving to hockey, the Vancouver Canucks traded Corey Schneider to the New Jersey Devils for the No. 9 pick in Sunday's NHL draft. The franchise selected Bo Horvat with the pick. The move means the embattled Roberto Luongo will be club's starting goalie for the foreseeable future.

And Inbee Park became just the second female player in history (joining Babe Zaharias) to win the first three majors of the year after winning her second straight U.S. Women's Open.
