Mark Reynolds gets revenge on Jarrod Parker

The Cleveland Indians had already hit a pair of solo shots off Jarrod Parker in the first inning of Monday night's game between the A's and the Tribe. So when the Oakland starter beaned Mark Reynolds in the head later in the frame, Parker was issued a warning by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez. Reynolds took his base without incident but wasn't pleased with getting hit in the noggin. "I don't mind being hit -- at all," he said. "I'm hoping that was a fastball he tried to overthrow. He's a really good pitcher and he let one get away from him." But Reynolds added, "I was on a mission right there to hit a ball as far as I could."

Reynolds got his chance to avenge the scary moment in the fifth. With the score 3-1 Indians after Asdrubal Cabrera's second solo blast, Reynolds launched the first pitch of the at-bat an estimated 457 feet to the area of Progressive Field occupied by longtime drummer John Adams. The mammoth home run to left field was all the seven-year big-league veteran needed. "That's kind of payback for hitting me," said Reynolds. Cleveland eventually won 7-3.
