Making it rain in Seattle at Safeco Field

Yahoo Sports Minute

The Pacific Northwest is notorious for the amount of precipitation it receives. But the rain that fell at Safeco Field in Seattle on Sunday was not your typical liquid sunshine. And no — Adam "Pacman" Jones was not in The Emerald City. During the seventh-inning stretch of a game between the Minnesota Twins and the Seattle Mariners, someone from the upper deck of the ballpark released $6,000 in $1 bills! The move caused a stir amongst the 35,087 in attendance and temporarily delayed the start of the bottom of the inning as the fluttering cash settled.

So what was the explanation for the dollar, dollar bills y'all falling from the heavens? Turns out it was part of a promotion for something called the 5K Tailgate aka "the most outrageous 5K color tailgate" — a color run-style race where participants will get doused in blue, green and silver the day before the Seattle Seahawks' home opener against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football. The website got so many hits following the stunt, the server crashed due to excessive traffic. The M's won the game 6-4.

Meanwhile at Soldier Field, Brek Shea's goal in the 69th minute provided the only scoring of the day in the Gold Cup Final. The United States Men's National Team beat Panama 1-0 to capture its first win in the tourney since 2007 and first title of any kind under head coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Finally, Brandt Snedeker thanked Kandi Mahan, wife of Hunter Mahan, for going into labor early after winning the Canadian Open.
