Kyle Seager’s grand slam ball proves dangerous

We've already seen plenty of examples of fans behaving badly so far in 2013. There was the incident in Toronto a couple weeks ago where a beer was tossed in Nate McLouth's direction after the Baltimore Orioles outfielder made a diving catch into the stands. On the same night in Kansas City, a knucklehead eluded Kauffman Stadium security briefly and stole a rosin bag. We've even seen a priceless moment between a husband and wife at Wrigley Field. But the incident that occurred in the 14th inning of a game between the Chicago White Sox and the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field was something else entirely.

M's third baseman Kyle Seager hit a grand slam that tied what had been a scoreless game through the first 13 innings at 5. It was the first time in MLB history a slam had tied a game in extras. But as noted in the clip above, a young fan paid the price for another fan's overzealous reaction. A man wearing a white shirt and cargo shorts appeared to drop the home run ball and while trying to retrieve it, barreled over the kid. Ouch! Let this be a lesson to you parents out there: if you're bringing your child to the ballpark, keep an eye on them at all times! The Pale Hose eventually scored a couple runs in the 16th and won 7-5 in a game that lasted so long Chicago skipper Robin Ventura actually had to leave early so he could attend his daughter's high school graduation.

Moving to the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Pittsburgh Penguins are on the verge of elimination after losing to the Boston Bruins 2-1 in double overtime.

And the latest craze to sweep the NBA - the franchise name change - is reportedly heading to Canada. The Toronto Raptors may follow franchises in New Orleans and Charlotte and have a new identity soon.
