Fan’s huge glove snags souvenir

Longtime San Francisco Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow is known for saying, "You bring a glove, you get a ball" in reference to fans who bring that essential piece of baseball equipment to the ballpark. Of course, once most people reach a certain age, the novelty of bringing a leather mitt to a sporting event has worn off. Not so for one Pittsburgh Pirates fan. In fact, Big Glove Guy has taken it to a whole new level.

During the fourth inning of a game his hometown Bucs would eventually lose to the Cardinals 10-6, a fan wielded his oversized glove on a Clint Barmes foul ball. St. Louis right fielder Carlos Beltran initially appeared to have a play on the ball. But once Big Glove Guy showed off his wares, Beltran meekly retreated, allowing the fan to snag it. The unknown man reportedly is a PNC Park regular who has caught hundreds of balls since last season but is rarely caught on camera. At least he left the fishing net back home.

Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder clinched the top spot in the Western Conference playoffs with a 104-95 victory over the Sacramento Kings. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant combined to score 50 points in the win.

And in college basketball news, Kentucky big man Nerlens Noel will enter the NBA draft.
