Evan Gattis homers during father’s interview

Yahoo Sports Minute

Millions of parents experience proud moments – thanks to their children – every day. But very few have them televised on live TV. Jo Gattis, father of Braves rookie catcher Evan Gattis, had one such moment Wednesday night.

While being interviewed by Fox Sports South reporter Tom Hart, the elder Gattis saw his kid take Roy Halladay deep for the first hit of his big league career. The 26-year old former prospect – who spent nearly four years out of baseball – had 13 friends and family members at Turner Field for the game. Once offered a full-ride baseball scholarship to Texas A&M, Gattis instead went to drug rehab. He wandered around the Western United States performing a number of odd jobs such as a ski lift operator and a janitor. But his first Major League debut was a memorable one for all parties involved. Oh by the way, Atlanta beat Philadelphia 9-2.

And he didn’t go for 50, but Carmelo Anthony did pour in 40 points as the Knicks beat the Hawks 95-82 for their 10th straight victory.

Finally, college basketball fans rejoice: Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson – who burst on to the scene last month – will return for his senior season.
