Dirk Nowitzki performs a David Hasselhoff song on German TV

Every now and then, the internet provides us with moments that defy explanation. A clip of Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki performing a portion of a David Hasselhoff song on German television is one of those moments. During an appearance on Stefan Raab's late-night comedy show "TV total" while promoting a documentary that chronicles his life story, the 12-time NBA All-Star was coerced into singing part of the former "Baywatch" actor's "Looking for Freedom."

Not bad. The song was actually a big hit for the 'Hoff in 1989 when Nowitzki was growing up in Deutschland. And while it's No. 98 on music critic Matthew Wilkening's list of 100 Worst Songs Ever, the tune has special meaning to the NBA champ. Back in 2006, he claimed he hummed it to himself while at the free throw line. So that's been Dirk's secret to being a career 88-percent shooter from the charity stripe! Following his impromptu version of the '80s hit with Raab, Nowitzki transitioned into the first few chords of Extreme's 1991 power ballad "More Than Words." Nuno Bettencourt must be so proud.
