Carlos Gonzalez, Dexter Fowler collide in outfield

Baseball is littered with bloopers throughout its long and storied history. Names like Jose Canseco and Steve "Psycho" Lyons instantly come to mind when hardcore seamheads reminisce about the funniest blunders of yore. More recently, the 2013 Houston Astros have provided us with several new examples - here - here - and here. And while the play that involved Carlos Gonzalez and Dexter Fowler was different, the end result looked similar.

The Colorado Rockies were hosting the Washington Nationals Wednesday night, and with one out and the Nats up 1-0 in the top of the sixth with a runner on first, Ryan Zimmerman launched a deep shot to left-center. That's when Fowler and Gonzalez converged on the ball and collided in the outer reaches of Coors Field. Jeff Kobernus scored on the RBI double. But all the attention was on CarGo and Fowler - and the wild play. Fowler nearly made an amazing catch while hurdling Gonzalez going full-speed. The ball glanced off the top of his glove and fell to the ground, where both players also wound up. A truly remarkable aspect of the moment was how Fowler managed to avoid landing on Gonzalez. The play wasn't quite a blooper in the traditional sense. But it certainly looked like one. Washington eventually won 5-1.

Andrew Shaw ended Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final in memorable fashion. The Chicago Blackhawks center's double-deflection goal capped the fifth-longest game in Final history as the Chicago beat the Boston Bruins 4-3 in triple overtime.

Meanwhile in NBA news, Jason Kidd will be the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
