Boomer Esiason named commissioner of Feline Football League

Perhaps Boomer Esiason is simply fulfilling his destiny. But as the former quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals, the 1988 NFL MVP seems like a perfect fit for his new role. The Hallmark Channel announced on Tuesday that Esiason will be commissioner of the first Feline Football League (FFL). That's the same group that brought animal lovers Kitten Bowl I last Feb. 2 on Super Bowl Sunday. This year's edition, Kitten Bowl II, will return as an alternative to the big game in Glendale, Ariz. on Feb. 1 — but Esiason will have much more on his plate than just one game. The 14-year pro will oversee a scouting combine, draft, games and playoffs.

"We couldn't have formed history's first Feline Football League without an exceptional commissioner," said Bill Abbott, president and CEO of Crown Media Family Networks. "Boomer Esiason is the embodiment for everything the Feline Football League stands for and we're excited to bring him on as the new face and leader of the network's newest league that celebrates pet adoption."

Esiason will continue in his role as studio analyst for The NFL Today on CBS. No word on whether or not he'll seek any advice from Roger Goodell.
