Andrew Wiggins dunks at Kansas basketball camp

When Andrew Wiggins announced he was going to Kansas over the likes of Kentucky, Florida State and North Carolina last month, Jayhawk fans rejoiced. After all, the 6-7 wing out of Canada by way of Huntington (W.Va.) Prep is the No. 1 player in the Class of 2013 and the most highly-touted high school prospect in the country since a certain teenager from Akron, OH entered the 2003 NBA draft. And if what he did Wednesday is any indication, KU supporters have reason to be excited.

While playing in a scrimmage involving current and former Jayhawks, Wiggins threw down a nasty one-handed dunk 13 seconds into the game. Cole Aldrich of the Sacramento Kings simply backed away from the phenom as he defied gravity. The slam drew a raucous reaction from the crowd. "It felt good," said Wiggins. "I let loose of all my nerves. It was good after that dunk." Yes, the 2013-14 Kansas men's basketball season will be fun to watch.

Moving to baseball, another budding superstar had a roller coaster ride of a day in The Bronx. Yasiel Puig struck out looking in the first half of a day-night doubleheader as the Los Angeles Dodgers lost 6-4 to the New York Yankees. But Puig launched a solo shot to right in the nightcap as L.A. shut out the Pinstripes 6-0.
