While in Atlanta for the city's new ATP tour event, Andy Roddick swapped the tennis court for the pitching mound. The American tennis star threw out the first pitch Wednesday night at the Atlanta Braves-San Diego Padres game.

With Braves reliever Billy Wagner serving as catcher, Roddick fired a low strike over the plate with the ceremonial toss. (I have a big strike zone.) Give extra credit to the world No. 9; unlike other celebrities who throw from the front of the mound, Roddick stood on the pitcher's rubber and threw the full 60 feet, six inches.

He later Tweeted:

threw first pitch out at braves game always get nervous and wimp out,but actually tried to throw it hard tonight and it went over the plate!

I like that a U.S. Open champion and millionaire who's married to a swimsuit model still gets excited about throwing a good pitch. The frayed cargo shorts, I'm not so sure about.

Here's some amateur video of Roddick's first pitch:

He couldn't resist adding a little tennis flair at the end by throwing another ball into the crowd. (Be careful, Andy, that's what got temperamental slugger Albert Belle in trouble back in the '90s.)

We'll rate Roddick's first pitch as slightly better than Serena's but not as good as John Isner's at Yankee Stadium.
