WIMBLEDON – Actor Jim Parsons was by far the best-dressed member of Canadian tennis star Genie Bouchard's entourage on Saturday, as she defeated No. 20 seed Andrea Petkovic of Germany to reach the fourth round – the second week – at Wimbledon.

Partner Todd Spiewak, though tieless, was right up there with him as he rocked a pale pink blazer.

And it turns out that Parsons, star of the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has it bad for Bouchard.

And Bouchard has it just as bad for Parsons.

"It's my favorite show.  His character is my favorite character.  So it's amazing that he's a fan of me 'cause I'm like the biggest fan of him," she said.

Their agents arranged for them to meet.

"It's been a year about since we've been in contact.  Since then he's watched pretty much every match he could watch or else he would follow on live scores.  He's e-mailed me after every single match I've played." Bouchard said. "He's more positive than all of my team combined.  So it's a refreshing change to get a nice e-mail with exclamation marks and smiley faces."

The friendship went mainstream Saturday when Parsons sat down on the ESPN set with Hannah Storm and talked about it.

"She played her first professional Wimbledon last year, and her managed contacted my manager, and apparently she watches Big Bang, and he knew I was a fan of tennis and he said, "Is there any chance Jim could come to Wimbledon? He could sit in the players' box with us.' "

Parsons couldn't; he was working. But a relationship was born and, a year later, Bouchard's agent's PR matchmaking paid dividends.

 

What do the 20-year-old Canadian tennis player and the 41-year-old American actor talk about? Well, the parallels between their somewhat disparate careers, for one thing. "We talk about, you know, the mental aspect in tennis.  He says how it's similar to him acting.  He has to be in the moment on set and all these things.  It's interesting to see how similar the mentality is," she said.
