It's impossible to look past the most anticipated first round matchup between Gael Monfils and Tomas Berdych, ranked No. 5 at the French Open, and the results lived up to the hype. Monfils won in front of his home crowd, upsetting Berdych in five sets thanks to plenty of athleticism we were used to seeing years ago. Monfils was a wild card, but he's been ranked as high as No. 7 in the world, and he showed that talent on Monday at Roland Garros.
In this case, the upset of the day was the same as the match of the day, with Monfils beating the No. 5 player in the field at the French Open. Berdych hasn't had a ton of success on the clay over the years but most expected him to at least get past the first round before the draws came out.
The only other thing that might come close to an upset is the first set that Rafael Nadal lost in his opening match against Daniel Brands, but the seven-time champion of this event went on to win in four sets.
This is a great look by Under Armour for Sloane Stephens, who won her first round match on Monday at the French Open. The bright yellow pops, but the hint of matching sky blue surrounding her getup is just as cool.
Novak Djokovic, Jack Sock, Bernard Tomic and Marion Bartoli all headline the Day 3 action, but weather could be a factor at the French Open. If these matches did get pushed, it might mean some of these big names, like Djokovic, would have to play two days in a row.
