For one night only, Nick Kyrgios show rolls through New York

NEW YORK – After making crude remarks during a Rogers Cup match in Montreal last month, 20-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios was fined $25,000 and suspended 28 days from ATP play.

Kyrgios had said that another player had slept with the current girlfriend of Stan Wawrinka. He made the comment in a heated moment during a match against Wawrinka. It didn't fly in the tight-lipped tennis world, with most of the veterans later criticizing the Aussie.

Penalties like that might make a young player stop and consider how he is perceived on the court and in the locker room. Well, maybe other players. Apparently it had no effect on Kyrgios. Tuesday night's match against No. 3 Andy Murray featured just as many emotional outbursts and racket tosses as any in recent memory.

The antics started immediately.

Perhaps they wore him out. He needed a nap on one of his changeovers.

But he still found time for trick shots.

Unfortunately, they didn't always work.

Anyone capable of reading lips could see profanity spewing out of Kyrgios. Not to mention all of his comments to the officials.

And when he failed to convert a crucial break-point while trailing 2-4 in the second set, he gave his best audition to be the baton twirler on a high school color guard.

The only time he didn't lose his head, he lost his racket.

By the end, all he could do was laugh.

And at least some fans think it's time to get off the kid's back.

Just as quickly as it started, the Kyrgios show is over. Murray moved on with the 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win.
