By my count, there are 139 people in attendance for this first round match at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. Remind me again why the tennis season needs to extend two months beyond the end of the U.S. Open?
The so-called "silly season" has had plenty to offer: Nadal's continued fine-tuning of his hard court game, Federer trying to get back on track, the return of Juan Martin Del Potro, Caroline Wozniacki defending her No. 1 ranking, the resurgence of Ana Ivanovic and Kimiko Date Krumm turn of the clock. But it suffers from a lack of organization (as Bruce Jenkins pointed out, why were six of the top 12 male players playing in different tournaments on the same continent to start the month?) and fan excitement.
