Is this the worst own goal of all time?

It's quite possibly soccer's simplest play: A defender drops the ball back to the goalkeeper, the keeper clears it out of the box. Simple, except when executed poorly.

Then, it's disastrous. Just ask keeper Daniele Padelli of Torino, who took a drop ball off his defender in a Serie A match against Empoli on Wednesday.

 

The miscue gave Empoli the 1-0 lead, which the team held for the rest of the game. Padelli gave an apologetic wave to the fans, acknowledging his mistake.
